It likely got lost in the shuffle, but wow, was selling Renato Veiga (who is having a great year) and keeping trash like Badi a huge mistake (as predicted), as Badi is a lefty like Veiga, is always injured, and is simply not as good a CB as Veiga, IMHO. Veiga also can play DMF if need be.

This one is probably down to Maresca, who never seemed to rate Veiga.

Veiga was sold because the board seen money

was a fucking POOR sale

I said so at the time

it is not THAT often I lose my shit over buys before they kick a ball for us (I was willing to give Gittens and Garnacho and even Muddy a chance, for instance)

but

I lost my shit over Badi, Disasi, Sterling, Fofana (Fofana because he was already damaged goods, pre Leicester injury FoFana was close to WC), KDH (mainly because he is decent midtable player, not Chels level, as he is now showing at Everton), Drinkwater, Lukaku, and (mainly due to the price paid) CuCu

CuCu proved me dead wrong on that one, but all the others have been or were shambolic

Tosin was on a free, but he deffo shows you get what you pay for

Mudryk, I forgot about him.. oh dear god

I am still willing to give him a shot IF we are transfer banned

at least we will never come close to paying the full £89m for him

it will end up being around £62m, which is still far too much

and IF he is banned for 4 years I think we get most back via insurance

He never looked that brilliant either in any of the variety of positions he played anyway. Was he a LB? A CB? A 6?

And whilst folk will say he’s doing well or is better than player X Y or Z, in all likelihood he’d of been just as much a bag of shite as the rest of them here. Thats just based off of our recruitment strategy & the success rate these sporting directors have had with 75% plus of their signings.

If we want to replace players like Tosin, Badiashile & see a huge improvement in the first 11 then the replacements need to be TOP TOP players who are lightyears ahead of them. Not more average/similar level of players - which is 100% what Veiga would’ve fallen under. Anyone saying otherwise is just lying to themselves.

Hato was apparently a good signing in the summer now everyone’s going on about Veiga & saying he should’ve been kept. And if we loan/sell Hato & sign another player of similar profile/level it will be the same again 100% 😂

I feel this is a mischaracterisation of my stances.

I said at the time it was a bad sale (of Veiga). I am a 'lead-from-the front person, I look at things at project in a future-forward manner, both shorter AND longer term.

I also never said that Veiga was the type of player we should buy as a nailed-on starter.

I simply think he is better than most of our CURRENT options. And as a CB, not a 'fill-in-a-hole' Swiss Army knife type.

I have posted voluminously as to the great players we should buy (and should have bought), actual mainstay, nailed-on WC starter types.

Not specifically.

His name was mentioned in another thread by other members also. It is 100% a case of ex player doing well elsewhere vs our players (mostly of a similar quality) in the same position are struggling.

I don’t think Veiga would be the answer or a real improvement on any of our defenders. Hato also has the same flexibility in terms of positions he can play so his versatility, if it was ever an argument/consideration for some, isn’t something we don’t have either. He is probably on a similar level and has a similar ceiling - which unfortunately isn’t what we need - to the likes of what we’ve already gotten.

I agree with some of the CBs you’ve listed as they are top quality, which is what we need. I have been waiting to see if this ownership group are serious enough to go out and buy top top players. For instance we needed a GK & CB, Donnarumma & Guehi were available for less than what it would’ve cost us to sign Garnacho & Giitens this summer. Yet they weren’t serious enough.

Donnarumma's salary plus signing bonus demands were insane

It was always a no-go

🔵BlueCo apparently close to signing David Mimbang (17) from EFBC! 🇨🇲

More than just securing a top midfield talent for the future, this would also be a brilliant step for RC Strassbourg in strengthening their relationship with one of the best academies in Cameroon, ahead of Lille who signed Carlos Baleba from them in 2022.

(@alfredfrank)

After Muhammad Zongo (16), the next African talent lands at BlueCo in Strasbourg, with more to follow!

BlueCo is currently buying up half of Africa.
