Why isn't Verratti included in Enrique's plans tho?

And if any of that is actually true, we should try to get him. I mean imagining addition of verrati + one DM, probably something too much to ask for

He already agreed personal terms with Saudis weeks ago. Going for cash there. They probably don't want him because he doesn't want to stay.

So ANOTHER day will pass without our top target in the building. Time and time again our club have payed the money for players they truly wanted, even if it was a bit high. But for one that we desperately need we have refused to.

I don't really get what is the Brighton's plan. Yeah, we all know that agents of every club in the world is waiting at their door with suitcases of cash, but if Pool is seriously ready to piss 100+ on Caicedo, just let them. Very clearly we do not value him as high as they do, otherwise it would be a quick business like it was with KK.

Why skimp out on such an important position, though? Why now? We’ve already gone for the cheap option at striker with Jackson instead of going big for a star striker like everyone expected. We went the much cheaper route at keeper instead of going huge for an Onana/Maingnan/Diogo Costa like every expected us to. We refused to get involved in the Rice chase.

So the money should be there when it comes to the most important area of the team that we have yet to address.

Honestly, no idea, but with our tendency to splurge, it must be coming down to board not thinking Caicedo is worth very much. A lot of people (Lucio, I guess?) said, DMs aren't the players that are worth as much as a lot of other positions, so maybe we don't want to destroy the market for ourselves completely. Now everyone is hyped up on him, but earlier in the window he was considered like nearly-best of the meh options, so maybe club is looking to develop someone in-house or are waiting for better option to come up in few windows time. Or maybe there is other point behind closed doors, but as we all know, if it was absolutely essential to get him, we'd throw 120 million there no problem. But maybe it's not the buying philosophy of the club anymore. Maybe we went full Marie Kondo and decided not to throw hundreds of millions on players who won't spark joy and we are not 100% amused with.

The striker situation may point to this, however the choice was as trash as every single of previous, like, 6 years, for us - Oshimen was a crazy, expensive gamble, others were expensive and unproven.

GK thing is a mess, as we have now option of Kepa leaving and somewhat strange appointment of Sanchez, still Onana, again, wasn't 100% convincing and Maignan refused us, so maybe we are actually seeing signs of more sensible business?

So basically whoever offers £100m gets him. It’s hard for me to imagine FSG suddenly being okay doing that after haggling for other targets and refusing to spend big money.

But will we?

This really sounds like the real estate hustle when buying a property.

Realtor: We have two people that have submitted the same offer. We are going to close it off so that only the two of you can make your best bid!

.....there is no other person making an offer on the property.

Brighton faking a Liverpool bid to lure us to pay more than this huuuuuge bid....like last week when they talked about a secret bidder lol

Its just too obvious Bloomy boy

I don’t think this Liverpool stuff is fake. Otherwise they’d have just payed up the extra £5m and gotten Lavia who they’ve been after for months.

How convenient for Brighton that right before the deal gets agreed, a bidding war starts lol

We’ve allowed it to happen by haggling for so many weeks. Caicedo could’ve and should’ve been a Chelsea player weeks ago when nobody else was even thinking about him and Liverpool were busy bidding for Lavia.

Now, perhaps due to extreme internal pressure from Klopp, Liverpool’s owners are willing to splurge on this one huge signing to take them back into title contention. Perhaps them receiving unexpected big money for Henderson and Fabinho made it possible at the last minute for them when it wouldn’t have been possible before.

It doesn’t seem implausible to me. They’ve shown with Alisson, Van Dijk, and Darwin that when Klopp really feels like there’s a top player that will be transformative for them his owners will go big.

PLUS, they’re probably selling Caicedo on the idea of reuniting with Mac Allister and making a genuine title charge. That’s gotta be appealing to him you would think.
