Martinez is my no. 1 GK since I saw him against Liverpool lol.

He would have been my choice, but I guess Arsenal do not sell to us.

Martinez might be a little bit smaller than Mendy, but because of Martinez athleticism, he jumps higher than Mendy. I think he catches many balls from aerial duels, almost Nick Pope level.

81% saving percentage as well and Arsenal last season were horrific at defending.I do not know a better GK that was available.

I rarely get really impressed by GK saves, but that save by Martinez against TAA shot was world class.

Maybe we can sign Martinez more easily from Villa next year or so. I guess what went against him is that Martinez has so few games at top level and only really impressed recently. Even though he looked tremendous it was just 10 games. He never did anything special in all his loan spells before.

Everyday some reporters say it's done and dusted, the next some others say it's not. Meanwhile, in the very first match of the season we see Kepa concede a goal that Mendy's 8 foot long arm would've saved.

We worked brilliantly and effeiciantly with every other transfer this summer but have left the most important upgrade until last and stall 😆

Not searched but did we try for Rajkovic or Cakir?

Id have sent Petr in so hard after Henderson giving him full arse creep mode.

No.

I could imagine Mendy is a bit of a stop gap himself until a genuine wc goalie comes avaiable. Mendy has his deficiencies and that will cost us. not as much as kepa but is that really the benchmark. when ederson, alisson came to city, pool, their defense woes were mostly sorted all at once. we would need a goalie with a similar impact to challenge for titles and everyone knows it.

But spending 25 million Euros for a stop gap does not sound right to me. 25 million GK and 80 million GK on the bench next season? Who will buy them?

Ederson is a little bit overrated in ky opinion. He always looks clumsy to me.
Are there really any genuine wc goalies available next season though? Oblak no chance and even Oblak has weaknesses because he is not the most dominant GK in the air. I do not think Martinez will leave Villa after one season, only chance would be if they got relegated.
Onana has weaknesses,Mike Maignan has weaknesses etc. Only GK I know, apart from Martinez, that seems to be the complete package is Musso. But I have not watched him enough, but I did not see any real weakness.

Yes. But Kepas the problem of course.

WHO would want him even if they could afford him or his wages.

I see that Grannys put a £50m price on his head! Thats scared anyone even slightly interested away.

We either take a £40m hit or  use him as the most expensive backup keeper ever till he leaves on a free!

Mendy won’t be on outrageous wages I guess. He can be shifted If necessary. The problem remains Kepa. For me the Mendy deal is a bit of an inside job. No way we would be looking at him if it weren’t for the lollichon Petr Rennes connection.  If that turns out good or bad Idk I just hope he turns out at least decent like Leno, Pope  or Dubravka.

I don't think Mendy is being thought of as a stopgap at all. The €25m we'll pay for him isn't massive, but that's decent money for a keeper. If we wanted a stopgap we'd have gone for someone like Ben Foster or something.

If Mendy does well he's our long term solution.
