Blues Forever 1,232
Chelsea are plotting a move to try to snatch Red Bull Leipzig forward Timo Werner from under the noses of Liverpool. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to add Werner to his squad in the next transfer window, but the Premier League leaders are yet to match his £53million release clause. Werner is thought to be keen on a move to Anfield, but that has not stopped Chelsea exploring the situation with a view to making a bid of their own. Should Liverpool continue to drag their feet, then Chelsea are ready to make an offer for Werner, whose release clause expires on June 15. Both Liverpool and Chelsea may be willing to allow Werner’s current release clause to expire because it drops to £36m in 12 months and the German club have virtually admitted defeat over the prospect of keeping the 24-year-old. That means clubs could try to negotiate a fee between £36m and £53m to take Werner this summer. Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann was asked about Werner’s future after the Germany international scored in Monday night’s victory over Cologne and said: “There is nothing we can do about it. He knows what he has in Leipzig and also what he has with me. “I show him that — he gets many chances to develop himself. I don't know if it will help him that much if I tell him every day. “A player has to feel that he can get better. If he doesn't feel that, it wouldn't do any good if I kept on telling him to stay here. In the end, it is his life, his career, he can decide that. I can't think of anything new to say to Timo.” Chelsea’s biggest hurdle would seemingly be to convince Werner to give up on a move to Anfield while their own Champions League qualification is still in the balance. Liverpool are sure to be in next season’s Champions League and stand on the brink of winning the Premier League title, while Chelsea are fourth and face an end-of-of-season race to secure qualification. Head coach Frank Lampard has identified his attack as being one of the main areas he wants to strengthen in the next transfer window. Chelsea failed with bids for both Dries Mertens and Edison Cavani in January, with Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain unwilling to do business. Napoli hope to finalise a new contract with Mertens, which has forced Chelsea to look elsewhere and Werner is a player of similar qualities in that he can operate off the flank, through the middle or alongside another striker. Lampard had spoken of wanting experience in his frontline and, despite the fact he is only 24, Werner has played in the Champions League and made 29 appearances for Germany. He has already scored 25 Bundelisga goals for Leipzig this season, which is nine more than another forward looked at by Chelsea, 23-year-old Moussa Dembele, has managed for Lyon in Ligue 1. Dembele is expected to push for a move to the Premier League at the end of the season and could yet force his way back up Chelsea’s list of targets if Lyon’s valuation, which had stood at over £50m, decreases. Lampard would be interested in Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang if he became available, but Chelsea realise it could be difficult to do business with Arsenal over the 30-year-old. Werner would certainly add something different to what Lampard currently has in Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud, who has admitted that his decision to sign a 12-month contract extension was influenced by the coronavirus crisis. Having almost left Stamford Bridge in January, former Arsenal striker Giroud had forced his way into Lampard’s team ahead of Abraham before the suspension of football. "I simply seized my opportunity and I repaid the faith that the manager had shown in me," said Giroud. "That's why the club ultimately offered me the chance to continue my time at Chelsea and I accepted immediately because I like it here. I want to keep winning trophies and I want to continue to show the manager that he can count on me. “Plus, with the whole coronavirus lockdown situation, I didn't really feel comfortable with the idea of moving abroad and uprooting my family. I think a lot about our quality of life and we have a great setup here. I think a lot about my family now.” Atomiswave

That's a whole lotta extra chance creation and goal threat. People will bitch and moan about Chilwell and Coutinho but in my opinion it won't last long after we see them in our shirt. I have no problems with buying Chilwell as long as the price is FAIR, given the COVID market. But... I have seen multiple reports that Bayer want 80m euros for Havertz (£72m) And.... This is Coutinho: Barcelona are willing to sanction another loan move as clubs are unlikely to meet their £71m valuation of the playmaker, but will demand a £9m loan fee. We are fucking crazy to not spend basically the same for far younger (20 v 28) better, more versatile (AMF, CMF, WING, CF) player in Havertz. Coutinho turns 30 right after the season after this coming one. So he has shit for resale value down the road. Havertz will never be cheaper that he is now until he is 30yo or more. If we don't qualify for the Champions League, we're gonna be talking about and signing the likes of Drinkwater, Bakayoko etc again.

BUY BABY BALLACK NOW I love Harvetz. I would probably take him over Sancho as I really think he will be a leader in future years for any team he moves to. However, lets be honest. A player of his caliber and profile is going to end up at either Madrid or Bayern, even if that means waiting another season at Bayer. ZAPHOD2319 4,818
JanAage Fjortoft has been reporting that Werner and Klopp are Skyping regularly. It might be that Klopp is stalling to get past June 15th to get a better price than the clause. If it is true about the two in regular communication, I doubt we have a chance at Werner. killer1257

Werner wanting to join Liverpool is the worst kept secret at this point but if Liverpool think they can get a cheaper price than the release clause after that date, then they are having a laugh. He still has 3 years left on his contract, RB Leipzig are under no pressure to sell him this summer if no club activate that release clause. Our chances will depend on (a) whether we qualify for the Champions League and (b) what will Liverpool do with Werner. Vesper

But things didn't turn out that way.
Pizy 18,908
We need Real Madrid to start one of their tapping up campaigns that they seem to always succeed at with one of Salah or Mané. Then maybe one of them goes into "I've accomplished so much at Liverpool so I'm ready for a new challenge" mode like Hazard did. Them getting Werner would sting less if they lose one of their talisman.
ChelseaFanUK 1,014
Liverpool fans all in the comments on anything Werner and chelsea related on twitter. The sheer arrogance of them is amazing Plenty has happened since Klopp spoke to Werner at Easter time, namely Covid-19. Liverpool wont have realised the financial implications of the virus, like all clubs at that time, and maybe now have decided they dont want to spend that kind of money on one player, if at all So the 'pool fans banging on about this meeting need to take a step back
