Simply needs to be shipped in the summer, decent player but just so slow and has an unhealthy habit of not tracking runs. We need more strength, pace and legs in the middle of the park, he's the complete opposite.

Not sure if Mikel or Fabregas!!!

For all of Fabregas' faults and he has many, especially defensively, he still adds something to this team. I really cant say the same about Mikel.

The same can be said of mikel adding to the team defensively while having hopelessly glaring attacking deficiencies.

My point being, IF you copy and paste everything that you wrote in your first post and post it in the cesc thread, you would be hitting the nail on the head.

Dont get me wrong, I am not supporting Mikel here, just that the same reasons that people want mikel to be sold should be applied to others too. Mikel, cesc, pedro, oscar - to name a few.

Not the 1st time I see you using argument of authority quoting whoscored. Mate, who cares about whoscored? Who cares If a stats site gave Mikel 6.2. Mikel was far form great, but he wasn't the worst Chelsea player on the pitch. Football is NOT about stats and this kind of objective numbers. For example, a player like Azpilicueta, in terms of stats, might be doing better than Mikel, but at the end of the day "whoscored" will evaluate his crucial mistake in the same way it evaluates a mistake from Mikel in not dangerous area of the pitch. In a Game that the CF barely touches the ball, he will get a low score, but the problem might be playmakers unable to give him the ball, and that problem you won't see in the stats, and stats won't tell you the difference between a legendary goal and a tap in.

The thing is that mikeI is also not that great defensively. His defending numbers don't add up and there are better def midfielders even in smaller sides. Not to mention pacey midfielders just run past him with ease, like KdB did.

after the game he had against city I'd expect people to be more upset, but I guess mikeI is just accepted for who he is.

btw, not a big fan of Fabregas either, but he belongs to a higher tier.

Fab and Mikel are similar in terms of mobility, you simply cannot have two such players in the same line-up. You then add Oscar to the equasion, who is completely average, and it's a no-brainer why we suck ass so much in the middle of the park. Last season we had Matic to hold things together. We are severely lacking an Essien in there, this will definitely be fixed next season and I don't believe Mikel will play another full 90 for the club again.

Yeah ffs lets hope alot of the backroom staff go to specsavers this summer,as 1 man and his dog spot could see its a big weakness(plus afew others) the last few seasons at Cfc.

Sad that guus would rather rely on this turd ,than get matic back in shape

Both as bad as each other and sort of sums up our mediocrity this season.

Replace both....Mikel with someone of real high quality and introduce a young lad into the fold.

What I noticed about yesterday's game after recalling which players played (I could only see the 2nd half), I had to conclude that our Mikel Obi played CB. Mikel at CB. Football has peaked.

But honestly, that is not even a bad idea. His offensive contribution is minimal anyway whilst his built is perfect for CB. Also he is as composed as anyone and a decent passer. That being said I wonder whether Gus did not simply play Miazga.

I missed the first 20 mins ad well, but he made a few comical errors in the first half. Didn't help either that our midfield was allowing runners through like they weren't even there...

Can't imagine Miazga would have done a lot worse.

The only good things I can say about Mikel is that in many football manager 2016 saves for me is that Mikel has scored many goals for me and awesome goals from heading the ball in the net from the corner. when I partner Mikel and Hazard in the middle they work so well together.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just heard something from someone unreliable but i'll pass it on. Apparently Nigerians have joint problems in their feet from past generations of walking long distances for water or something, meaning when they swim, they can't actually bend their feet, they just flap in and out of water without a bend, meaning most Nigerian people are scared of swimming (and never participate in Commonwealth swimming.)

So would this explain why Mikel and the Nigerian team in general seem less developed than their African brethren? Their feet literally don't bend like 99% of other footballers?

If that is accurate then problems is the wrong word. The word problems implies impact or stress injuries but such wouldn't be heritable and therefore would not apply to Nigerians in general but only to those who walk so much that they damage themselves. If there is truth in this, it must be because, over time, the feet of people who survive by walking would inevitably become adapted to that function. Whether adaptations in favour of long distance walking also tend to restrict flexibility I don't know.
