Smart move. Better change penalty taker early and not wait for Jorginho to start missing more like manure did. with Pogba who missed like 4 in 5 before they changed back to Rashford and then penandes

Worth noting that Werner has played 971 minutes out of 1080 (11/12 games), which is more than anyone else in the squad so far this season. That's 42 minutes more than second-highest Zouma (929) and the third-highest Kante (815).

12 games, 8 goals ^_^

And could have been more. Hit the bar, missed by a couple of inches with his lob. Although, it was not his greatest of games.

Hardly a surprise when he was played out wide again.

Not surprising that his goal and the one he missed just before that came when he broke through the middle instead.

I really hope Löw sits him out at least one of the games. He really looked gassed and could use a rest. Löw is not someone who whips his players in line when they are tired so there is some amount of hope he will be reasonable

He will be sitting out of the friendly game against Czech Republic. It's just question now how many minutes he will play in the (pointless) Nations League games...

It will be a difficult choice for Lampard moving forward.

Werner doesn't look as effective at times playing out wide, but he has been scoring goals and the way in which we play (i.e. Chilwell) allows him to drift inwards, hopefully more difficult for the defence to pick him up.

We do currently look better balanced also with a focal point in attack. Tammy is far from the perfect striker but he does seem so far to help the balance of the team and occupy the centre backs.

If and when Pulisic is fit, it'll be interesting to see if everything works as well with him on the left and Werner up top. Hopefully it will.

It will still be effective when Pulisic gets fit. Because he can destabilize defenders with his dribbles and drag players to him, leaving space for Werner to pick up dangerous positions.

Ziyech will also have an extra runner to locate with his exquisite passes (Chilwell, Pulisic, Werner)

But what we have now works perfectly so I hope we maintain it

Part of the reason we signed him was for this type of versatility so he can co exist with Tammy.

No one is disputing that but he looks less effective out wide, especially when being used almost like a winger. He's not someone who's gonna consistently dribble past players, for example.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but according to Raphael Honigstein from 4:43 here, one of the things that appealed to Werner about joining us is that Lampard doesn't see a fixed position for him but rather in different position, meaning Werner is happy to play anywhere in the attacking areas.
