zolayes 14,489
Couldn't you just imagine Drogba returning to Chelsea with his number 15 shirt, and winning the Champions League for us again with his last kick of a ball? BleedsBlue 1,549
If the rumours are true then we'll have a very strong strike force(assuming Lukaku does not leave.) A player/coach role would be perfect for the young players and the club. The youngsters(again Lukaku) would benefit a lot and Drogba as a player would help us too.I always wanted to know how he would perform with Oscar and Hazard supplying him passes. Now that we have a better squad,Drogba could be quite lethal for us but his role would be quite minimal as he may take sometime to readapt.Anyways, I am totally on board with this move. His presence will truly motivate the players and it'll be great to have the Legend back. zolayes
Daniel1980 1,425
Many people commented about Drogba's presence in the dressing room, his leadership skills, etc, and while all of this is true, we need to remember that our squad is different now than it was in 2011. Most of our first team players, especially midfielders and attackers, never even played with Drogba. Would they like being bossed in the dressing room by a player completely unfamiliar to them? I'm not so sure. That said, of course I want him back for sentimental reasons. But I'm not sure his return would actually improve the atmosphere in the dressing room. Our first team players are mature enough to start developing some leadership skills. We can't rely on the veterans forever. Next year Drogba will be gone, then JT at some point, then what? We need new leaders to emerge now that Cole and Lamps are gone, not to cling to old ones. The Chels, The Mak, Madmax and 1 other

Having him in the team will make the strike force less riskier and wouldn't affect the 3 strikers we have at the moment. His role as a player would obviously depend upon the situations but something tells me that he'll link up quite well with Hazard,Oscar and the other attacking players. Also his presence will really help Lukaku and the other young players. I am sure Jose will consider him as a coach first and then player. Its no secret that we are gunning for the title this year so its important that we are well equipped both physically( in terms of players quality and quantity) and mentally( the champions attitude and hunger to win) zolayes

Popular Post! CHOULO19 24,332 Posted July 20, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted July 20, 2014 I don't mind DD coming back in this manner. He's not coming back to be a starter, so his 'legacy' won't be harmed. He'll take the Ba role and hardly play at all and it would be a window for him to have a future at the club as a coach. Plus, just like Ba did last season, he can still offer something that neither Torres/Lukaku or Costa can. Plus, we've been talking about getting rid of experience players and true leaders too hastily. Well this is the perfect chance to have another leader in the squad and someone who knows the 'Chelsea way' and can enlist the proper attitude and fighting spirit of our club with younger players. He's a Chelsea legend, but as I said above, our squad is very different now. Most of the first team players never even played with him to have any connection with him. For example, Seedorf was a Milan legend and well-respected veteran in the dressing room when he played for Milan, but when he returned to coach Milan, instead of teaching the players the champions attitude, he was disliked by most players. Players that never played with Seedorf didn't like him, didn't agree with him, Milan legend or not.So I'm not convinced that Drogba would be such a positive influence on the team's atmosphere and mentality. They shouldn't need hand-holding anyway. They aren't babies anymore. Who's going to be the captain after JT retires? It's ridiculous that we still don't have any clear candidates. It's time for someone to step up and become a leader. Drogba isn't going to be much help in that regard sitting on the bench.

Cech, Mikel, Cahill, Ivanovic. Plenty of our players respect him. It's not quite like Seedorf who was gone for a while. Drogba was here just 2 years ago. Most importantly, he and Jose have a good relationship. No one would disrespect Drogba. He has won what Salah, Willian, Oscar, Hazard, Azpi, Matic, etc. Dream of winning. They will respect him and be willing to learn from him. Only 3 players in our starting XI played with him--our squad changed that much. Though it's not really the point. My point is, expecting that Drogba would magically rub off his champions' mentality on the players he's never even played with is unrealistic when he isn't even a first team player. He's going to sit on the bench most games. We need leaders in our first team. It's a good thing that our new signings are experienced players who have experience at winning. They have a better chance at transferring their experience to the younger players than Drogba does. P.s. Seedorf finished his Milan career just 2 years ago too.
