He scored a hattrick. Fuck sake. His contribution was decisive to win us the game regardless of if it "was detrimental to the team, pushing forwards out the way etc" or not.

Also, did you watch or see any of Derby last season? Their fullbacks got high and wide, wingers tucked inside and interchange, same as we seen so far.

Also considering how our attacking players have more played as a unit than they have in a while and not as individuals again, I dont see where your getting this potentially detrimental to the team crap from. Suppose there was always gonna be one, guy scores a fucking hattrick yet there's an issue and his movement or found freedom is potentially being detrimental to the team 😂 god almighty think I need a break from the internet.

It's silly, isn't it? If Pulisic was ignoring instructions and drifting elsewhere, we would have seen Lampard berating him to get back into position. And furthermore as you said, anyone who has watched us this season will know whoever has been playing at the left side is tasked/allowed to drift infield whenever possible, so that Alonso/Emerson can overlap - certainly more so than our right side.

He only scored because he went against the manager and was out of position...........Ffs!    :0)

" This is something Hazard used to do a lot and can be detrimental to the team, pushing fellow forwards out of the way to accommodate his own attacking desires and leaving the space wide and behind vulnerable to counters. Did Lampard really gift Pulisic, a player who has had to work to break into the team this season, the amount of freedom he took? "

The article is behind a paywall, but judging by the snip you posted, then the whole presumption of that article is that the journo knows what Lampard's instructions were. He doesn't, so a waste of time.

As you may have seen from the headline, the writer basically said Pulisic shouldn't have scored his first two goals because he started at LW. He questioned whether Pulisic ignored Lampard's orders and drifted infield - since his first two goals originated from central position - or Lampard simply gave him the creative freedom to roam from the left side - the writer certainly tried to imply the former, for whatever reason.

Saw this on another forum. Pulisic is the 18th player to score a hat-trick in the Roman Abramovich era:

Didier Drogba = 4
Frank Lampard = 4
Nicholas Anelka = 2
Eden Hazard = 2
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink = 1
Eidur Gudjohnson = 1
Salomon Kalou = 1
Fernando Torres = 1
Samuel Eto'o = 1
Andre Schurrle = 1
Diego Costa = 1
Oscar = 1
Michy Batshuayi = 1
Alvaro Morata = 1
Ruben Loftus-Cheek = 1
Olivier Giroud = 1
Tammy Abraham = 1
Christian Pulisic = 1

Both goals were off turnovers and break away runs. It would seem to me regardless of your position, if you take the ball away and have a run at goal.....you fecking go!

Yeah but the writer argued that he shouldn't have been in the central position to force those turnovers because he was meant to be play at LW. 🤷‍♂️

Ahhh. Like others I couldn't read the entire article. He was saying he was out of position defencively, and honestly defence is not Pulisic's strength. I will say this, Lampard loves aggression on both sides of the ball. I doubt he looked at it negatively.

Pulisic might not be physically strong but being weak defensively at that is one thing, being weak tactically is another and the latter doesn't apply to him. As I said before, if Pulisic was going out of position and doing his own thing, we would have seen Lampard telling him off during the game but that didn't happen. And anyone who's watched us this season will know our players have the creative freedom in attack without jeopardizing the team balance.

I was surprised to see Kalou had scored a perfect hat-trick as well

Did it in that 7-0 win over Stoke in 2010. Had 2 perfect PL hat-tricks in that 09/10 season!
