you would never have posted this if he had went 'normal' and let in 2 howlers

sure, it is good to get him some playing time, BUT the EPL is no joke

True but again if we intend on moving him on at some point which if its financially doable for another team and acceptable for us, he will have to play sometimes to attract interest because when you had the season he had last season, cost what he did and are on what hes on, aint many clubs who can afford to take a gamble that big in the current situation. Cup games and the odd PL game is good enougu for me if he has no howlers. I think the 2 games in a row is good for him also as it gives him more minutes, those 2 clean sheets which would hopefully bring more confidence and maybe makes it a challenge for him to try start more now. Plus TT has spoken pretty well about him where as Lampard was maybe critical in the media with him regarding his save percentage at one point which maybe wasnt overly wise which we also seen with him throwing the team Under the bus a few times also. Although I still think Mendy will be number 1 as TT said but Kepa playing and doing decently, its not the worst thing because he will get sick of being a number 2 eventually and good performances will lead to interest from elsewhere.

I still think the decision to sign Cech as a GK this summer would of shattered what little confidence he had left after last season also. I mean I know it didnt turn out that Cech has played or even made a squad yet but must be pretty detrimental if you see that happening considering the guy retired 2 years ago. Never mind him, Willy also got a raw deal, demoted to 3rd choice after the deal to get Mendy.

If he has anything about him he'll push for a move in the summer, if not he'll just stay as a cup keeper until his deal runs out.

Hopefully he does as Mendy goes to the ACON next season and if we can put ourselves in the title mix a month of Kepa could easily derail our season.

Yeah, sod that, just play Cech.

He is not that far away from starting spot imo.

I think he will demand to stay this season and wait for AFCON next year which will be his huge chance.

I still have hope he can be our GK for the next decade.

I have hope he fulfils his potential but don’t think it will be here.

I think he’s going to be a cup GK if he stays. He was very comfortable today, came for some balls he wouldn’t of came for last season and vocal when he had to be (which their was always some sort of weird opinion that he was too vocal? If I have time I’ll dig out the article it was one of those really shit ones that somehow made it onto the athletic though) with the defence.

I think we are looking at Donnarumma by sounds of it also who has a contract expiring.

Here's the tricky thing with Kepa...

Under Sarri, we weren't defensively bad - certainly not as bad as we were under Lampard - but we still gave away chances and Kepa rarely saved them. He was in the bottom 2 or 3 for saves made in the league, IIRC.

Under Lampard, we were horrible defensively and gave away tons of chances but even then, Kepa didn't make too many saves, every shot practically resulted in a goal and he also made some horrendous blunders.

Under Tuchel, we're much better defensively and never mind goals conceded, we have rarely given away chances and the keeper isn't called into action much. To give Kepa his due, he did make some good saves against Barnsley, who ironically has given us the most trouble defensively under Tuchel.

Otherwise yeah, it's hard to judge where exactly Kepa is right now.

Yeah. It is hard to say exactly. Thats why I think a move and playing every week may be the only way we truly find out. Unless he earns his place again here but would say its unlikely. Unless he has an absolutely huge change of fortune. He has been really solid so far with Tuchel though and if he starts the FA Cup final continuing in this vein, I think it would make people a bit more comfortable although obviously we would prefer to see Mendy. That will be a tough call come the final also. Does he stick with Kepa as his cup GK or put in Mendy?

l would say under Sarri he did have some big moments and not very many poor ones it any at all from the top of my head. Definitely in the Europa League he was good and there were a collection of very good saves in PL games as well I remember some very good saves v Fulham, Liverpool, Southampton, Watford and Spurs in particular. The only concern or weakness I think he had was coming for crosses but it wasn’t as bad as it looked the next season. Not sure about stats with Sarri but if they were that bad I would be surprised I dont think we would of got as many clean sheets if so, although I suppose its misleading entirely as we had the 3rd best record with Rudiger, David Luiz and Marcos Alonso/Emerson in a back 4.

Under Frank aye, it went clean wrong and the defence wasn't great too as you’ve said but he made some very good saves in the Super Cup and a few other games right at the start but he did pretty much go through arguably the worst GK decline/poor spell most have probably ever seen in a season, which even if he did manage to play well in some games, that run of mistakes had already overshadowed how people felt about him.

Jorginho stole 6th clean sheet from him under Tuchel. I think plan is to play him in FA Cup final.

I think he maybe gets to start aye. Would make sense. I don’t think hes shown any bad signs under Tuchel and playing in a cup final would boost his morale considerably I think in what will be his last season here I would think.

Albeit he has been perfectly fine under TT it would be a huge risk and mistake to play him in the final. He just does not give defenders the same confidence Mendy gives them and it shows in the most critical moments. We need our best XI out on Saturday and Kepa just is not in it.

Tuchel already confirmed Kepa will start on Saturday. lol Said he played tonight to prep for that final.
