NEWCASTLE have failed in a bid to take Michael Mancienne on loan until the end of the season.

Joe Kinnear wanted the talented centre-half, 20, to bolster his hapless defence but Chelsea have rejected the deal.

They do not believe Mancienne, who unexpectedly broke into Fabio Capello’s England squad this season, will develop at St James’ Park.

Blues boss Phil Scolari recalled Mancienne from a loan spell at Wolves and feels he will make the progress he needs working with Chelsea’s first-team squad.

I don't believe Scolari's judgement is the correct one, though. I'd send him back to Wolves at the end of the month.

Aston Villa and Barcelona are chasing Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne.

The England Under-21 international defender is out of contract next summer and is said to be frustrated at the lack of first- team opportunities at Stamford Bridge.

Despite earning rave reviews on loan at Wolves, he knows John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho and Alex remain ahead of him at Chelsea — and he has yet to make his first- team bow.

MICK McCARTHY is lining up a Mancienne is Wolves target

Mick McCARTHY is lining up a £4million bid for Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne as he prepares for the Premier League.

McCarthy wants to bring the England under-21 star back to Wolves this summer.

Mancienne impressed at Molineux on loan earlier this season and was recalled by Chelsea in January to challenge for a place at Stamford Bridge.

But the 21-year-old has only made one league start under Guus Hiddink and McCarthy wants him to strengthen his newly-promoted side.

I agree, depending on the situation here at Chelsea with regards to players comming and going, a season long loan in the Premiership would be fantastic for Michael. Infact in many ways it would be better for him than staying with us next season.

Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne has featured a bit more for us this season and duly caught the eye of other Premier League clubs. However, despite Chelsea making it clear he’s going nowhere, that apparently hasn’t stopped Real Madrid keeping an eye on him.

Rumour has it the Spanish club are considering trying to tempt him away from Stamford Bridge in the summer although hopefully will be sent packing in the same way other interested parties already have been.

Mancienne might get a chance to play against Barcelona next week – albeit at left-back – with Ashley Cole suspended for our Champions League. And the suggestion is that Real will have their spies out again if Mancienne starts that game, even if it’s a case of they can look but not touch right now.

MICHAEL MANCIENNE has emerged as a shock target for Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants are keeping tabs on Chelsea’s blossoming England defender and hope to cash in on his frustration at Stamford Bridge.

He has played only two games in the Premier League since being hauled back from a loan spell with Wolves.

A Madrid move for Mancienne could be triggered in June following their presidential elections. Ex-sporting director Jorge Valdano is tipped to rejoin the club if Florentino Perez is re-elected on June 14 — and Valdano is a huge Mancienne admirer.

He has already sent scouts to check on the youngster’s progress.

Well Real can look bloody elswhere

Anyway yeh a loan be good for him but a permeant deal esp with the new 6+5 rule coming in though who knows when.Be a good idea not to make it permeant.Looks to be a class player and be a shame to let him go but loan defo.
