Naked Mole Rat 437
Hardly relevant, though, to be honest. He didn't have to be racist to call Ferdinand a black cunt. He just had to be very unprofessional. If he had, that is.
BlueLion. 21,491
Hate the way people are turning against one of if not the greatest captain to ever grace the Stamford Bridge turf. Obviously JT has made mistakes such as this and the Wayne Bridge thing but we must not forget that this is a man in the media spotlight 24/7. Simple allegations can be blown completely out of proportion by the media and they will always pick up on the slightest thing that he has ever done and find a way to slaughter him for it. I am sure everybody on this forum has made mistakes in their life but we are at an advantage that we can live peacefully and not have journalists outside our house all the time.So people against John Terry just remember that, although he has made mistakes, he is still a tremendous player who wears that blue shirt with more pride than anyone else on that pitch. If we are going to remember him in 30 years time as 'that bloke who slept with another players wife and racially abused Anton Ferdinand' then that shows what negative thinkers we are today. In 30 years focus on the fact that this bloke is a youth academy product who has won 3 league titles, countless cups and is the most successful captain ever in 106 years of Chelsea Football Club.Absolutely.But he's undoing all of that with these antics. Whether it was a simple mistake, a moment of naivety or him saying what he was really thinking, he should be reprimanded. It doesn't mean we have to hang him out to dry, but I certainly won't show the same respect and admiration towards him in future. I'll back him as I back our squad and the management, but he has gone down in my estimations greatly.
termninja 5,290
We should wait first and see if he is actually charged of anything...
BlueLion. 21,491
I agree there Nemanja, innocent until proven guilty, of course. However my point are his alleged actions are bad for the image of the club - we're hated enough as it is. I am not thinking of what other fans here, but what other players think. Would you want to come and play for a team captained by an adulterous racist?

Would you want to come and play for a team captained by an adulterous racist?I know. First JT's incident, then fans chanting to Ferdinand and then that cunt who called Sturridge monkey or something. It is absolutely disgraceful and terrible for the image of the club which is already low enough, but it is also terrible seeing some people here swear at Terry and throw away all what he's done for the club in the blink of an eye while he's not even charged of anything.I do hope all this ends fast, it's drawing unnecessary attention from the players and from the fans while we have a tough season ahead with a leaky defense which leader is under tremendous pressure right now. francozola 2,040
If he has a bad game today - which is very possible if he's up against Suarez - then everyone's going to be all "JT affected by racism claims" and all that crap which will bring even more pressure to AVB and the team

Madmax 9,219
To put it bluntly : is JT past it? I think so. His play is becoming increasingly sloppy these days and while he's never been pacy, it's being exposed more and more often now. He's constantly getting skinned by mediocre players, lured into going to ground because he hasn't got the pace to cover. All those days of playing through pain for the love of the club have taken their toll.If he wasn't the captain, it'd be difficult to justify a place on the team sheet. Luiz is a better defender, but a different kind of defender and evidently the future. Ivanovic (as a CB) is in a similar mould to JT but arguably better. Even Alex, putting aside a few recent mistakes, would get into the team ahead of him. He does remain the ever-inspirational leader of the pack, but the question is, how long will that continue to compensate for an obviously apparent decline in footballing ability? chrismada9 1,948
To answer your question! Yes he has past it... he is not the player he was some 5 years ago, but his leadership is still unmatched!
Kojo 4,676
He is past it, he can't play highline defending. He will never fit in the system. However AVB will probably get sacked and then some other manager will come in and Terry will probably just fit in that.

manpe 10,861
So it's time for this topic. 2-3 seasons ago we didn't even dare to think of it, but this problem has been rightly brought forward now. He almost cost us a goal today with his miskick. And ability wise in general he hasn't impressed. Atm he's probably emotionally down for obvious reasons, tired and all the other things that come with age. But for a centre back he isn't too old yet, it's just that the high line game doesn't suit him at all.. and he has become more sloppy. If we put Ivanovic in the centre, then we must play Bosingwa on right side.... if not, then we must play Alex, and who knows in what shape he is atm - didn't even make the bench today. James 5,314
Could it be because of AVB's tactics? The high line defending?
chrismada9 1,948
Could it be because of AVB's tactics? The high line defending?could well be! When Terry was in his prime, and Mourinho was manager, Chelsea played boring football with a defensive line, and it was a benefit for Terry... if you think about it, playing a high line with Terry who is 31 next month sounds as if we really are pushing the boat out with our tactics! xPetrCechx 13,570
AVB tactic can't work with our slow and not creative players!!!
LDN Blue 7,903
He can't adapt to this high-line, and that's a big problem for us.
Liquidator 5,176
He is becoming a bit of a liability. Not sure how much all the stuff in the week had to do with his performance today but it was very poor. The high line does not suit someone like him because you need pace for it. His tackling today was strange as well, instead of dispossessing a player he seemed to just swing his leg and hope it made contact with the ball. I think he can be excused for his slip against Arsenal because that is just bad luck and can happen to anyone but he certainly is not what he used to be. I'd give him a rest what with all that is going on for the game midweek and start with a Cole-Alex-Ivanovic-Bosingwa defence against Leverkusen. I'm sure he won't play on Wednesday anyway, but probably on Saturday v. Wolves.
