Chelsea Legend 11 4,062
Him having a buyout clause means it doesn't even matter what Atletico want to do, doesn't it? Surely anything less than the trigger amount won't be enoughI'm not even sure Atletico own him. When they sold Aguero to City the transfer fee went to the tax man. Falcao has third party ownership I would bet they are the one's driving the deal through, his agent get apart of the deal too
JDY 1,290
The fact he didn't play a single minute in EL, makes me think they will sell in January.Neither has Arda Turan, and a host of other important players have hardly featured in the EL. Wouldn't read much into it.
DanishBlue 426
Guys, dont get your hopes high. I'm pretty confident we wont meet his release clause in the january market and Atletico wont sell him for less than the clause - that's for sure.I'm pretty sure we will get another striker but Falcao is just unrealistic imo.Too many things have to add up. Atletico might go to CL next season, we might dump out of top 4 (see it from his view), we need a buyer for Torres for this to happen, and we need to be willing to splash the cash on a striker which has failed many times before. We should change strategy and try a cheaper version. Maybe it will work better than these fantasy signings.

We don't necessarily need a buyer for Torres for this to happen, we just need a buyer for Sturridge and it seems to be pretty likely that he will be joining Liverpool very shortly. A move which would free up £65,000 per week in wages and a £12M transfer fee.To be honest, I don't think Chelsea ever wanted to extend Sturridge's contract, whether we like it or not. A club would never let the contract of a 23 year old player that they had high hopes get to six months left. So £12M for Sturridge with only six months left on his contract, that's good business to be honest.
Henrique 9,133
Almost would have believed it if there wasn't a RVP to Real part. Now I am convinced it's BSThere is no RVP to real, he just said the dutch man is a target.
DanishBlue 426
Yeah, the sturridge deal would be good business for Chelsea. I just think that it would be a bad move not to sell Torres if we want to sign Falcao.Torres is making too many complaints when he is not playing and he has a bad effect on the team like last year with Drogba. It wont be healthy for our team if we keep Torres and sign Falcao. Besides, he is too expensive in wages so the best move is to sell him if we sign Falcao. That's the only wise move imo.Edit: otherwise we should play them both at the same time like RvP and Rooney. At least they both speak spanish, so Torres can't use the language as an excuse It would be sexy in Fifa 13 though... LDN Blue 7,903
Putting all our eggs in one basket again, while paying near £50million for a striker while letting another leave. He'll be a flop. Chelsea never, ever, learn..

It makes more sense to find the Falcao's of tomorrow ourselves and pay a fraction less. The most logical thing is to buy several strikers and have them compete for this position. Instead we're selling the one who could've done that, keeping the waste of space who's a challenge to no-one and not having a plan B. I agree with the highlighted part but the situation with Falcao is different to with Sheva and Torres.Sheva has already built a legacy, he was past his best and Milan fleeced us for £30m. Torres was crap for 6 months prior to his arrival, the mistake we made was thinking it was because he was getting bored of life in Liverpool and needing a new challenge (well that and not doing a proper medical on him).I agree that we should look out for the 'next Falcao' ourself's but i really can't see how he will flop, like with RVP he has too much quality and confidence for that to happen. But you have to understand that Sturridge wants to be playing regularly as a CF, and that's just not something the Chelsea board are willing to offer him. I'm not faulting Sturridge's ambition, but I'm also not faulting the board for attempting to sign Falcao. It seems to be the best deal for both Chelsea and Sturridge. But then there's factoring in pressure, adaptation, will our style even suit what Flacao is used to getting at Athletico. Just because he's on fire now, doesn't mean he will for us. If he doesn't get off to a burning start off the bat, his own confidence will shake, we'll have no plan B, and stuck in the mud again.True. However I don't consider this a good deal because it's a ridiculous amount of money and most are expecting he's the answer to getting us goals. We're going to pay a hideous amount because the board is short-sighted and they're going to continue to be short-sighted when we're losing talents like Sturridge, just like Borini just like Miroslav Stoch. Watch how we waste Islam Feruz too.
