Ashley Cole

He would have done better than Baines yesterday, on the bright-side he's getting invaluable rest to recharge his batteries so he can be in top condition for us.

Baines was beyond terrible yesterday. Had an absolute mare. Woy would have been better off getting Shaw to play with the senior squad rather than the U21s.

If anything, England's game yesterday confirms why Baines is often used more against lower level opponents while Cole is preferred against the better ones. And if used wisely, Cole can still perform well, maybe not to the high standards he once set, but still good enough at least. Problem comes when he's being flogged to death especially with this troubling ankle issue he seems to be having.

Not too sure about giving Cole a new contract. He is already 33 this year and even though he can still contribute to the team in more ways than one, his performances in recent times haven't been all that convincing and consistent. If anything, it already highlights his decline quite a bit. He needs to be used sparingly and rotate with the other LB (goodness knows who is it gonna be long term wise) or otherwise, there's probably be gonna be issues if Cole plays every week after getting that new contract.

I still stand by my opinion that he should not even have been given a new contract last year. Back then I still somewhat understood the reasons on why he was awarded the new deal but no fucking way he deserves one now based on his performances this season.

Oh gawd. Watching him start again yesterday suddenly brought back those anger of seeing him playing. He is so one footed it is beyond a joke! Every touch, every pass have to be done with his left foot and every time when there is a chance to pass the ball forward, instead of doing so with his right foot, he takes the easy option out and pass it backwards because he couldn't execute the pass with his right foot or even just do with his left!

Most left-backs have that problem and I didn't see anyone moaning about it when he was the best left-back in the world.

Started off rusty but grew into the game although he's still far short of his best. Would still start him against Palace though, just to see if he can continue to improve.

I think this criticism is because we were used to seeing Cesar play as a left back.

Not expecting him to be two-footed but bloody hell, at least be able to execute simple passes, for instance, with both foot. With him only doing everything with his left, it makes so easy for opposition to stifle him offensively with the passing. Press him and he eventually pass it backwards even when there is a forward pass ahead but he couldn't do so with his right.

No. Even before Azpi started playing there, I had already criticized Cole of doing that. Heck, despite Azpi is a right footed player, a RB playing at LB, he can still do things with his left foot. Even Bertrand is not so one footed like Cole.
