Italy haven't done shit since 06. Spain, well, idk. He's Argentine why wouldn't he play for them?
Cholo 428
Chose the country was the least amount of chance for glory and team success... Yeah, because you play for your country because of your title chances and not because your heart tells you where you are from... poor Bale, Ibrahimovic

Cholo 428
Kind of like khedira, gundogan, ozil and boateng...They were born in Germany, raised in germany, speak German better than the language of their parents, know Germany, consider Germany their home and themselves German. What else do you need? You as an american should understand this since you are from a country which doesn't really have the culture and history of other peoples as all Americans are descendants of settlers or immigrants from around the world. Or kind of like how France seems to get half their team from Africa.
Atlas Lion 1,223
like Thiago alcantara, THiago Motta, Camoranesi, Pepe, Deco, or how bout chelsea's own Diego Costa. Thiago was born in Italy and raised in Spain, Diego Costa and Thiago Motta were shunned by Scolari during both his spells with Brazil, whilst Pepe and Deco both had obligations to play for the Portuguese national team after obtaining citizenship. All of which do not relate to Messi's allegiance to his home country when speaking of true nationalism and passion, only Camoranesi the exception. (Avoiding the fact that he already had strong ties to Italy due to his first generation upbringing)

He chose to play for italy. Pepe and Deco played for Portugal because they couldnt make Brazil...Messi parents are Italian descendents and Messi grew up in Spain, not Argentina. Spain/Barcelona are the ones that paid his medical bills, his growth hormone pills, etc.. Argentina didnt...

Thiago spent 5 years under Brazilian Soil and 10 years in Spanish soil. Thiago Motta wasn't shunned by Costa, I was speaking of a manager that goes by the name of Filipe Scolari. He was rarely preferred due to injuries or Scolari never having faith in him due to having duel citizenship and questioning his allegiance to his Italian ancestory. Pepe and Deco both had obligations to play for Portugal due to legal reasons under their approved citizenship's. Unlike Cameronasi who is first generation Argentinian, Messi's roots settled in Argentina in the late 1800's so any ties towards Europe to him matter at the slightest. Thiago was not in Brazilian soil for only 5 years... Somehow Rafinha plays for brazil nt... More or less because brazil didnt go for Thiago when he was young and he took exception to that. Thiago Motta has nothing to do with Scolari, unless you think a 20 year old Motta was good enough to play for brazil in 2002 and shunned by Scolari as a result. Deco chose portugal because he couldnt get on Brazil national team as did Pepe. Funny thing is that Scolari naturalized Pepe in the portugal national team and called up Deco....O yea, I forgot Marcos Senna as well.
MrBlueGuy 1,552
Dont think Messi will retire at Barcelona. I can see Pep going to City and Leo following suit in +3 years...With CR7 and maybe Ancelotti joining MU, damn that would really be written in the starSaying that CR7 scored another couple today, already on 11 goals LOL
