Diego Costa admits he returned to Chelsea overweight this summer

“I’m going to be very honest. Maybe a few weeks ago, five of six weeks ago, I was not on top of my game. At least physically.

“We talk within the players and we know that maybe at the beginning we were not 100 per cent as we were supposed to be when we got here. I got injured at the end of the season and then I went on holiday. Maybe I got out of my diet and when I came back I was not the way I was supposed to be. I was a little bit overweight. That affected my game.

“You can be selfish and blame it on the manager, but I’m not going to do that. I’m responsible 100 per cent and so are the other guys. We know we’re not in the best form we were supposed to be at the beginning of the season.

“We need to blame the players because we came back from holiday very confident, and we thought we could go back into how it was last season, and then when we actually realised in the situation where we were, the team was already in a bad situation. So all we can do now is train very hard and work very hard, and try to get back to that level where we were the season before.”

“I’m here because I’m happy with the manager, I’m here because my team-mates have gone away to the international break, I don’t like giving interviews, but I’m speaking for the group,” said Costa.

“We all feel the same way about Jose, for example when I played in Madrid, people respected me much more, the supporters and the crowd.”

“He’s very direct, straightforward, he always speaks what he thinks and what he believes to be the truth,” said Costa. “Sometimes it’s not what people want to hear. It’s the way he is and it’s why sometimes they criticise him.

“There are managers who always say what people want to hear. I think that’s not good. I’d rather have someone who tells me straight up what happens rather than sweet things that I want to hear.

“I have been here for more than a season, I have seen sides that have lost much more games than Chelsea, and no one criticises their managers. They can say whatever they want about Mourinho, but inside the dressing room, he is completely different from the idea people have of him.

“If you ask a million players who they want as their manager, they will all come back with a top three list of Mourinho, Guardiola and Simeone. It was one of the reasons I joined Chelsea .”

"The players are to blame," said striker Diego Costa, who happens to share the same agent as his manager in Jorge Mendes.

"Mourinho is giving us all the support we need. The players say he is the best manager we can have. Maybe he gets criticised because he is very good. Maybe he gets criticised because he is Mourinho."

"Yes, Mourinho has supported me, but he has supported all the players. It's not that. I'm happy with the manager. We all feel the same way about Jose.

You hear players speak (or read what they say) and they all sound like robots to me. It's generic and politically correct in practically all cases, never saying what they truly feel because they're not allowed to. Don't even understand why they interview players at all. But I like what Diego said. It feels genuine and he came out with strong message.

But this is football. You can only prove it on the pitch, so I hope to see great improvement.

After embarassing himself claiming Costa is the 2nd best striker in the world ahead of Lewandowski and others, Aguero just made him look even more 'special' by scoring 5 goals today in a match while it is approaching November and Costa is still on 2 goals. @Pacquiao.

and whats your point? so you judge players on a few games of good form??? i judge players on what they have done in the last 2/3 seasons, which is why Costa is 2nd best in the world.

every top striker goes through spells of good form this is nothing new, you have just exposed your lack of knowledge. sorry. :clown:

Aguero and KDB definitely had a look at this forum and saw what Pacquaio said. They definitely wanted to prove a point to him.

well unlucky for them they have yet to prove any point, Aguero has done nothing in every game he never scored in after someone on here said Aguero still contributes when he doesnt score and Kdb got exposed against Spurs, he looked out of his depth for most of the match. Kevin has underperformed in his toughest 2 games so far in the PL, that is a fact.

I never said he was a bad striker? all I am saying is I don't like him and don't think he should be a Chelsea player because of his antic and limitations as a footballer. Maybe reputation wise he is probably still top 20 in the world atm, but reputation is very different from reality. The claim of him being 2nd best striker in the world is just outright ridiculous though and deserve all the mocks it get, that is like saying Higuain is the greatest Argentine striker of all time.

i can back up my opinion unlike yourself, now that is truly embarrassing.

I didnt even know Costa came back overweight until he said something and the daily mail put up that unflattering photos last night.

The issue was, he wasnt alone. Fabregas clearly came back with a gut, which caught my attention before anything else. Hazard also came back overweight, which he seems to do every season with us outside of his first one.

We look like an entire different side with him in the team. This is a fact.

I thought he had a very good game today although the service he received wasn't the best. His off the ball movement, strength, and understanding of the game is very vital.
