Yes, it's (supposedly) to commemorate 25 years at the club, tarton is associated with Scotland, it's just one of those stereotypical things.

Even though the Tarten print was invented in Austria...but oh well, it's not like the Scots have anything else going for them.

Has this ever been confirmed? Seems more likely that the gingham is a symbol of the manchester cotton mills from the late 1800s.

Either way, it looks ridiculous.
