The Mak 4,459
Matic was not good enough in 2011. I did like him though. He had a nonchalance in his game I liked, but that's not a good thing at such a level. He left and went on to develop, reaching a high level in a new position, changing his style and playing a completely different role. If you predicted Matic to do that back in 2011, I'd like to talk to you about the lottery and the stock market. I say I don't think he'll ever be good enough, but you can of course never predict these kind of things. That's the fun part about football.I'd take a bunch of other players over Mikel. Not Van Ginkel, not at this stage in his career.Only seeing this response now for some reason. If you look at my comment again, I said nothing of me 'predicting' Matic's success; I am only questioning what makes you think that you can predict such a young player's trajectory? His grand total of 2 starts for us? His untimely injury? Or his time at a club who owe him nothing? If a young player has not been given a real chance in the team, then I do not know how you can just write him off like that. Remember, he was still a Mourinho buy at a time when we didn't have Matic and Lampard's Chelsea career was about to end...I would rather stick with @Barbara and be optimistic about the young lad.My comment about Matic only questions your reasoning behind your prediction, nothing else. But Van Ginkel's career started before Chelsea of course. I didn't see anything in his time at Vitesse to suggest the makings of a future world class player. You can never predict these things of course, but you base the potential of a player on their performances. Van Ginkel wasn't even the best player in the Eredivisie, let alone one of the better players the league has seen in recent years. Not a great talent for me.So I'm willing to say he's not top side material. I don't mind looking like a fool if he ends up proving me wrong. BlueLyon 9,359
If we keep him, he will be average, if we sell him he will turn into next De Bruyne.

No one thought Kane was as good as he is when he was playing for Leicester or Norwich. A lot of the time I believe a player needs to right conditions to develop and shine; I do not think MVG has been given that sufficiently yet, so I can't write him off just yet. Barbara 15,149
He just needs a round of good luck to keep the injuries away. He could end up being our new workhorse in midfield in a few years if he avoids injuries kellzfresh, CurlyHairLikeLuiz and The Mak

Ahh, a fan can dream.I'm not being misunderstood but he can hold as well right? Perfect backup if so.
kellzfresh 7,229
He's so injury prone, like thiago. He has tackling in his blood, I think he'll be better than Matic in tackles soon. His energy, size and box-to-box ability is what Mourinho craves in midfield battles.
CHOULO19 24,332
Let's not get our hopes unrealistically up. Yes, he's been decent when he's finally been able to get regular playing time recently, but his chances of returning are still pretty slim. He's still almost certainly going on another loan next season unless he chooses to move permanently to another club. yuvala

I'd be much more comfortable with MVG (fully developed) in the XI than Ramires for example. CFC888 and Barbara

Barbara 15,149
I said very early last season, and I'll repeat. I see a lot of young Lampard on Marco. I hope he develops well because I see a lot of potential. I love the long range shots, I love the way he makes the transition. I really hope it works out the best. He's an update to both Mikel and Ramires imo - as it is - although I'd still keep Ramires in the team. He could be a good backup for Matic. He doesn't play in my starting XI unless both Willian and Oscar are in really bad shape. An average Willian or Oscar still starts ahead of Ramires for me.
