Toli 977
people seem to be so ignorant. he is schürely no starter, but he will ADD DEPTH to this squad- thats what people here have been crying for. and when we get it, people moan about it ffs. decide what you want. nowadays, even not world-class player cost around 15-20 m. thats it. deal with it, or deal to be like arsenal and buy semi-good players for half the price and be happy celebrating 4th place like EPL title.schürrle is for sure 100st time better than marin and he is better than moses. so, definetly, UPGRADE. SinineUltra 1,170
You just don't pay this sort of money for someone who will "work hard and give his all". Any of our youth team players would do that without us having to pay a penny in transfers. For this sort of money I expect a lot and I know we won't get it.You're the only one bringing up that only thing he can do is work hard and give his all. Why can't you recognize his other abilities? There is noone in our youth system at the moment that would be even slightly ready for being a dependable squad player. Who exactly do you think you'd get with 20mil euros, someone who is young and better than Marin, Moses?
HNKS 508
Schurrle is much better than Moses yet people didnt moan this much when Moses joined us. Hopefully with Schurrle coming to Chelsea we wont have to play Oscar on the wing.
SinineUltra 1,170
My point is that you can just say one thing to make it look Great or Bad.There is this saying: only a fool can't find an excuse. I'm with you on this one, mate.Give him a fair chance, he is 22 and under a great coach he could unlock his potential. Plus like said above - we all want starting XI packed with expensive superstars in a formation that might work well in a FIFA game, but if we want quality bench, we must spend. LDN Blue 7,903
Now what I like about this situation is the big rumours regarding Mourinho having a discussion with the Leverkrusen coach & Schurrle after this testimonial game, shows he's been given that control he desires. The Skipper 20,609
Mourinho clearly approves the deal so can people stop trying to use this as an excuse to abuse the board?
Jase 43,479
Cristian Nyari @CnyariAndre Schurrle to Chelsea is pretty much a done deal. 20m Euros, 5 year contract. Got the official go ahead from Leverkusen.

Careful, you're still running to be member of the month. I think you already know that supporting the board and not being ignorant isn't the best way to be popular. GermanBlue 82
OK, I'm cool with this. Finally strenghtes our bench and KDB isn't involved. In Sky Sports Germany's article on the Schürrle transfer, it is still said that KDB will probably join Dortmund.

LDN Blue 7,903
Also, I'm laughing reading this. Suddenly everyone's up for it because, the messiah, KdB isn't included in the deal?! Lol wut?
Gilvorak 3,734
I'll support him once its official but I'm still not convinced by this signing.
Jype 6,398
£17m and no KdB involved is actually a great deal in my opinion. Hope it means De Bruyne will be recalled and not sold to Dortmund. Can't see him going on another loan so there are only these two options left. Sure it's a lot of money but that's simply what the market is like these days, even average players go for over 10m all the time and to get a young player who's already very good with potential to be even better you just have to pay a lot. When a player is already world class at such an early age, he will go for double the amount Schürrle will cost, unless there are exceptional circumstances like a release clause negotiated when the player wasn't yet as good or if his contract is about to expire. Now tell me, which players tick those boxes this summer? Those moaning we should have gone for the likes of Di Maria, Sanchez etc. should think about the big picture. Those guys come with a much bigger reputation and would be much more likely to demand a guaranteed place in the starting lineup as well as costing a good £10m more and having double the wages Schürrle will get. For the good of squad harmony, it's better to buy a player who's ego isn't yet as big as some Real Madrid or Barcelona first team regular's is because we already have amazing players at the club and new signings for the AM positions are needed for depth more than anything. If they're already good and capable of being maybe even world class someday, why not take a chance? In Mourinho I trust, he seems to fancy this deal and so do I. The Mak 4,459
'Meh' pretty much sums up my feelings on this transfer.£17m is a good price as far as I can see. Don't forget of the 'Chelsea tax' we usually pay on every single transfer and the fact that Germans rarely leave the Bundesliga, unless it's for serious money. He's not Hazard or Mata level of quality, but I do think he's ahead of Moses. Price seems right. Don't forget, this is the same day that City paid £22m for a 28yr old Brazilian whose played the majority of his career in the Ukrainian League...I think we're OK tbh. If they're already good and capable of being maybe even world class someday, why not take a chance?Disagree. The point with people wanting the likes of Di Maria, Sanchez etc is because we want our RW position problem to be solved (first and foremost). At the moment, we have no top class player to fill that position and by getting a proper RW, it will make the team much more balance by playing the right players in the right position and not trying to fill square pegs in round holes. Schurrle's main position is on the LW. We already got Hazard there and he won't be dropped for a player with lesser quality than him. Not denying Schurrle will add depth to the team, even though I'm not 100% convinced by him, but buying someone like Di Maria, Sanchez etc, a top quality RW and solving that area would be much better first. jmarlow 458
Strength in depth is key to being successful in the PLIf we line up with - Oscar - Mata - Hazardwe then could potentially have Schurrle, KdB and Moses on the bench to come on and change the game and that looks really promising.
