I don't think it will actually affect us that much

Chelsea confident new rules capping loan players will not mean offloading their youngsters

Chelsea are confident they will not be forced into a player cull as a result of the new loan rules that will be announced next year.

The Fifa council will ratify new rules in the New Year that have prompted fears that clubs that loan out a large number of players, such as Chelsea, will be forced into a rethink. But Premier League clubs are hopeful that domestic loans and those involving club or association trained players under the age of 21 or 23 will not be affected by the rule change.

Non-domestic loans or those involving players over the age of 21 or 23 are likely to be capped at six, seven or eight, but that would not cause Chelsea huge problems.

With clubs likely to be given more than a year to fall in line with the rule change, until the 2020-21 season, Chelsea believe they could make adjustments to make sure they fulfil the new criteria without having to offload a large number of players.

Chelsea currently have 39 players out on loan, but a large number of them are club or associated-trained players aged under 23 or 21 and 20 of them are currently playing in England. The matter will be discussed in February, with Fifa aiming to have the new rules in place in March, ahead of their implementation for the start of the 2020-21 campaign.

That's very good news but I have no doubt than sooner or later, just shifting the players this side of the English Channel will not suffice to satisfy some stupid FIFA regulations. I rather think that they will try until they manage to completely illegalize our loan system. Man I hate regulation and I hate FIFA.

Crazy to think that, this time 3 seasons ago, we were talking about him being our biggest talent and probably breaking into the team the following season. His loans to all the English teams have not worked out, so good move. He had a brilliant season at Vitesse. Awful spell at Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday. Below average spells at Middlesbrough too. A shame because 5 years ago he won the young player of the year and had a brilliant goal record from midfield. Was scoring for fun. Very unique in fact he is ambidextrous.

That Chelsea Youth twitter page who puts so much devoted time into the academy is probably Lewis Baker's biggest supporter and always saw him as an outstanding talent. If he was integrated into the team after his Vitesse spell, we may of had a total different situation but we will never know...

Why the fuck are we still loaning out Lewis Baker? Surely the club can see he's nowhere near good enough, just fucking sell him.

Still keeping players that have no hope here for a quick dime. This shit needs to stop.

It is a difficult one because Baker signed a contract a few seasons ago which was at least £30k p/w. No teams are going to purchase him and pay that amount a week, so loans are the only viable option. He was offered a big contract due to his excellent campaign for the Chelsea U23 and impressive loans at Vitesse. But now due to his underwhelming loans, will be difficult to sell him unless baker takes a pay cut, which he will not do. He probably the highest earner at Dusseldorf just by his wages he is on at Chelsea. Look at Izzy Brown for instance. Only made 2 appearances last season and again was probably the highest earned at Leeds due to what we are paying him.

Does he hardly value his career or just naive?

Anyone at his age would/should want continuity in their career rather than being shipped off with no clear progression in mind.

But while he is going out on loan, he is still playing regular football, albeit on high wages. He still will have a good career. But money speaks. If a team offered to pay his full wages, then I am sure he probably would move. This deal is with a view to by so be interesting to see how that turns out. People are forgetting though that Baker is extremely talented. He just has bene unfortunate with his loans.

Money talks, ...... walks. Wrong attitude to have in such a sort career (end of your career is different).

It is not just Baker, but the clubs involved are only offering loan deals. All our youngsters go through the same process tbh. Ongoing cycle.

I know. It's just something we need to nip in the bud before an inevitable loan limit comes into play, and we're stuck with development squad players.
