🇪🇸 Fernando Torres

1 in Community Shield that even the FA doesn't take seriously

1 vs Reading that shouldn't even have counted because he was offside

1 vs Wolves Reserves team who were losing 4-0 at the time

Performance-wise, he was also invisible/terrible against Atletico, Juventus, Stoke, QPR, Wigan and even Wolves today - running into defenders, losing possessions and missing sitters. "It was like playing with 10 men" like Gullit said. 4 to 5 in 9 sounds good, but not really.

He was good against Newcastle, but from what we've seen I think it's more likely that goal was fluke.

I hope he has another good/flukey game this Saturday, but at the same time I think it's totally justifiable to say that he's been shit. If he was any good last 20 months, I would agree with you that we are being harsh.

Torres doesn't score goals people moan then when he does score the same people carry on moaning! :fainthv9:

I agree that it is good he is scoring and with the midfield we have now he should be able to get 15 goals this season, but despite the goals this season he has frustrated and can you see him winning a big game for us in the face of adversity when the chips are down?

I can't, he will score the odd goal that will win us will us three points aswell as a load of goals when were cruising (ala last night), we have basically got a more expensive version of Kalou on our hands. The only difference was Kalou never had all the leeway and excuses.

I will feel the eternal wrath of Torres fans now but I am still not satisfied with his performances, but a goal is a goal. He still looks like your average striker and is miles away from the likes of Aguero, Rooney, RVP etc...Should have had more and that miss later on was awful but at least now he has great teammates so things are easier for him. I haven't written him of still and who knows what can happen, but I am not really optimistic about his future here.

His goal reminded me about a certain amazing moment in Chelsea's history though ;)

Chelsea prepares €56 million offer for Falcao

Yeah...preparing...they believe...heard...they expect...

They can fuck of.

Selling their papers on our name when there is nothing else to write...

It´s only the sun,It would be more reputable if any spanish newspaper publish such story in my opinion.

Still not happy with Torres but gotta love their timing of publishing such BS story the night after he scores. They're obviously trying to destroy whatever confidence he might have gained from last night.

Lol, if that's something that affects his confidence he should quit football and starting playing chess.

Can't believe to this day, that we once had Drogba and Anelka... and we threw them away for Torres....

The plan was to replace Drogba with Torres almost immediately, but a mix of Drogba's refusal to let that happen and Torres awful mental strength put pay to that.

If Drogba got released by Shanhai tommorow, i will bet anything that Roman will be straight on the phone to his agent.

The Falcao rumour sounds unfounded to me. Just because he scored goals against us doesnt automatically link him to us. As for Torres he's always going to be a game away from a crisis so i'm not sure how successful he really can be here. He's our top scorer in all comps and thats all we can ask of him.

How to relativize Torres’ alleged struggles in front of goal in 2011/2012

http://theweststando...-front-of-goal/

My problem with Torres has never been missing great chances. Even top strikers miss those. My problem with him it threefold:

1) He isn't getting into the proper position to get those chances. He is found in wide spaces far too often. He doesn't attack the net looking for the ball so when crosses come in, there's often nobody there.

2) He isn't creating his own goals. A striker at the top level should be able to turn decent chances into great chances and sometimes turn a nothing-looking play into a goal.Torres seems to require the ball at his feet in front of goal to be able to score. Players like Mata, Drogba, Lampard,Sturridge, Oscar, etc...have all been able to score on well-taken shots from outside the box. When Torres gets the ball, even in a decent position to score, he often tries to cross the ball over or go around his opponent and turns what is a good scoring opportunity into a lost bit of possession. Maybe it's a confidence thing, but he seems to only want to shoot if he is alone in front of the goal (Newcastle goal not withstanding).

3) He's too predictable and hasn't adapted his game. He wants to get a through-ball in the middle of the pitch. When defenders take that away from him he seems lost. He doesn't have the speed he used to have so is unable to go around defenders but he still keeps trying and decent defenders just stay with him and force him out wide so he ends up on the sides of the pitch too often..

I think everyone can agree that the way Chelsea are set up right now, it'd be very difficult for any striker to have a lot of success, we aren't creating any space for the striker to run into, but Torres has been particularly awful. I do find it almost amusing that everyone has gotten on Torres this season when he's actually been generally OK after defending him last season when he was genuinely terrible.
