If he doesn't want to go - and that's perfectly fine, I wouldn't walk away unless my money is paid either - then just don't use him; let him train with the reserves for a season like Malouda did. We can the hit on his wages; why should we let Torres potentially derail our entire season? We're one Costa injury away from being absolutely FUCKED. We will almost certainly buy Mattia Destro or some other adequate second striker if Torres goes and with such a signing the squad would be completed 100%. We pay him 16m for him to leave, we receive his transfer fee - as he won't be on huge wages because it means he'll be receiving from two different clubs, we can ask a bit more than we would.
