I agree with this. If you're supposed to be the Chelsea coach of the future, then you should have your say and bring in who you want but a guy who is going to coach for 6 months? Chelsea will likely just be firing all these people in half a year.

Dude, you ever heard of the:

Kansas City Shuffle...

Tell everybody 7month contract and hope in 7 months they want him to stay?

Jus' sayin is all... :)

7 months as well - lucky number slevin? :)

We've never replace Drogba or Lampard or Terry or Carvalho or Ballack or Essien. Our starting XI in 2005-2006 was Cech, Gallas, Carvalho, Terry, Del Horno, Makalele, Essien, Lampard, Cole, Robben, and Drogba and almost all at their peaks. That's insane. (We also had players like Gudjonsson, Crespo, Duff, and Feirera who played regularly) We had top-5, top-10 players at their position in the world all over the pitch. We had players who were elite attackers and elite defenders. We had balance, physical presence, ability on the ground, in the air, speed, leadership everything. We are light years away from that right now.

The replacement for Drogba is hopefully going to be Lukaku. The replacement for Lampard and Ballack is hopefully going to be Oscar and Mata. The replacement for Essien is Ramires. The replacement for Cole is going to be no-one because he's irreplaceable. Not sure you can replace the best left-back of the last decade, but Bertrand might be able to do a job.

Terry and Carvalho haven't been replaced in terms of quality but the club made some positive moves going for Luiz and Cahill.

But we aren't going to be doing what we did in 2004 anymore. We're looking to build our own stars and pick up young talent and in that regard I think the club are doing a pretty good job. The key ingredient is finding a coach who can bring them through and Roman never saw Robbie as being that guy.

Can say that all you want. Doesn't denied the fact that he dodged several questions like when he was asked about his previous comment about not joining Chelsea or other clubs in England due to his respect for Liverpool. Then when talking about his past success, he likens winning La Liga to having won the Premier League in his CV and even spouted nonsense about Guardiola has never won the Premier League! Regarding the captaincy question, he said Terry will keep it by saying "An easy decision. Normally, yes." Normally?! As said, he was being evasive and hardly endeared himself to the fans though he seem to know that he won't be here beyond this season. Since he's only here to get the results, then whatever. Just want to see him start winning again.

Not saying he did not dodge questions, just saying it was a good thing. Reporters were clearly setting him up and waiting for him to trip and he didn't. You thought it was horrible because you hate the guy.

Don't deny that I hate the guy but just saying that there were several questions he could have answered it properly.

Ramires will be a good player...but I don't think he'll be able to replace Essien. Essien at his peak was the complete midfielder, he could basically play anywhere in midfield.

As for Robbie not being the right guy...if you're under that much pressure as a manager, your first instinct will be to use the more experienced players rather than bring through youngsters from the academy/reserves.

If you want a successful youth system, you need to give your manager at least a 2-3 year period where you will back him 100% (unless of course your club starts seriously crumbling).

Not really Cech's call that though.. Manager should be entitled to bring in his own coaching staff.

Of course it's Cech call. Cech is a world class keeper and has his own way of doing things. He feels comfortable with his own coach who he has worked with for nearly 10 years. Why should some guy on a 6 month contract come here and tell him who is going to coach him?

Maybe Benitez should hire new chefs as well then. He looks like he knows his stuff in that department. Hope Benitez does something about Chelsea TV too, I hate that Gigi woman.

Lol did some people here only start watching football recently?

Benitez never ever answers questions directly even at Liverpool he always sidestepped or gave a random answer, nothing new lol.

I am chuffed and can't wait till the end of Jan to see what he has accomplished as I think anything before then in terms of implementing his ideas and the players grasping them it'd be too early to judge. I.e. if we lose against city it's not a huge deal he's been here 5 minutes.

How can you replace all round midfielders with two attacking midfielders?

This could work. It seems like Roman has liked him for a while and his Liverpool side were similar to ours. Hard working, tough to beat, solid and causing problems to top sides. Rafa seems so happy to get this job, he's turned so many jobs down, he was never going to get an opportunity bigger in the premiership than this one which is the league he wants to be in. He's dreamed about a job like this. He knows he's only got 6 or 7 months to make an impact and put himself back in the shop window or try and cement a bigger contract with us. He knows what he has to do, even if it's only for his own ego, it will still be good for us, he'll put everything into this period. He wants to win trophies, just like us. He also hates Man Utd and especially SAF. Don't get me wrong, i'm against him being our boss but it adds a bit of spice to some of our games doesn't it. Anfield and Old Trafford will be interesting games. His English is good, he's not scared to voice his opinion, he's not boring and he has many players he can relate with, especially our hopeless striker and Juan the man. Mata certainly seems happy with the appointment. Just trying to sound a bit positive, i'm so intrigued to see what's gonna happen to us, just makes it exciting.

He is a pretty decent manager but can feel pressure too. FACT

I see many of supporters dislike Benitez, but I have strange feeling that he will win something this season...Also I think we are going to see diferent fomrations, and I don't think he will play with trio oscar, mata and hazard together...

Also I am against firing Di Matteo, he just didn't have much time...but thats Chelsea and ROman...

I would say attacking wise with the wings and flair upfront now it's alot better, i mean come on Mata, Oscar, Hazard and De Bruyne in the prime is going to be very interesting. But when you look at everything else, our midfield is shocking, i mean really bad. We are supposed to be an elite team and our midfield is midtable standard. Then the defence part is horrible also.

You're spot on we haven't replaced Terry or Carvalho especially. Cahill will never reach that standard and Luiz certainly wont.
