English players

Something I thought yesterday, when we were playing with only one english player, Cahill.

In past years, we didnt bought any english player, bar Cahill, while Joe Cole, Terry, Lamps, Ashely Cole will soon leave us.

I think that having Homegrown players is much more important than having some world class ones. They never let you down and are always putting 1000% of their energy. Im not saying foreign players dont, but english players will always give all their heart in matches similar to Terry and Lamps in the past. Or Xavi at Barca, Scholes at United,...Homegrown players also dont leave for big bucks, unlike foreign. Once Real will be in for Hazard, its gonna be hard to keep it. While english players. remain pretty much all their careers at their home clubs.

United got Cleverley, Evans, Jones, Smalling, Powell

Arsenal go Ox and Wilshere

I think we should try to get some english players to our club in next years.

Thought we had Cahill, Cole and Bertrand yesterday ? Anyway theres no proof Terry. Lampard amd Cole are off anytime soon, and then theres Sturridge as well.

Yes we've gone a a bit Spanish/Brazilian of late, but I am sure there will be more English gracing SW6 turf in the future

yeah ... agree with that ..I think there's not too many of them are avilabe this season ... I think when we got the loanees back some of them must go stright to the first team ... but they have to prove themselfs to "matteo" ... now we got sturedge - cahill - bertrand + terry & lamps so the situation is okay we don't have to get anyone else :D

Cole, Bertrand, Cahill, Lamps, Terry, Sturridge currently, we've got Joshy McEachran out on loan at Middlesborough, I'd love for him to be given his chance in the first team next season! Sam Hutchinson looked tidy when he played last season, also got Nathaniel Chalobah who looks like he could be a quality Chelsea player for years to come, already in the junior England set up. Over the next couple of years I'd love for us to have some more home-grown players than we already do, so for Hutchinson, McEachran and Chalobah to be playing regularly (possibly) plus Ryan Bertrand who is only 23 years old, so he'll be around for a while. The future is bright at Stamford Bridge!

It wasnt insulting, I said that our last ten years were mainly supported by Lamps and Terry, two english players. Others like Drogba, Ballack, Mata,...all did great job, but homegrown players usualy stay at club and always give it all. Yesterday match was truly covered with fighting spirit of Hazard, Rambo, Luiz,...nothing to say against it.

My point is that as english club, I would love to see at least few key english players to be in this team, not just foreign (despite they are awesome too). I mean, there is nothing better to have homegrown captain and playmaker, striker in the team. Nothing beats that feeling when you buy english talent, then convert it into world class and watch him shine for your club. Just sayin'

Mceachran could turn like that, but I have feeling he wont make it at all, because of his attitude like he doesnt realy care.

I don't see why it matters. We are a club challenging for the title and European trophies. In order to stay in this position we need the best players. Not over rated English players, just for the sake we're English.

Liverpool have adapted some sort of mentality that buying English/homegrown players is the way forward.......Look where that has got them.

We need quality players not homegrown players.

What nationality is Ashley Cole...? Or Ryan Bertrand or Daniel Sturridge? Plus the 2 other main players who are either banned or injured...

Just because players will leave us at some point does that then mean that they don't exist in our squad...? Pretty sure every single person who plays for a football club will eventually leave the club due to old age or being bought by someone else, it's inevitable. But until the day that happens they are still a part of the squad.

You're really complaining that we don't have enough english players in the squad...? I know we are based in England and play in the premier league, but I think you'll find that there are a hell of a lot of foreign players in the league- deservedly so. That's like picking someone for a job because they are english with no experience rather than picking someone from europe who has a degree and lots of experience.

Besides that, your argument is just complete bollocks, We have Turnbull, Ashley Cole (who you seem to be forgetting/leaving out of the list, Gary Cahill, John Terry, Ryan Bertrand, Daniel Sturridge, Sam Hutchinson and Josh McEachran who are out on loan, as well as the players in the reservers and the Unders team who are coming up- Jamal Blackman, Natahn Chalobah, Patrick Bamford (as well as others) who all look very promising.

EDIT: Evans isn't English, he's Northern Irish.

I get confused when the word "homegrown" is used., Could mean players that were in Chelsea's academy? Only JT and Bertrand came up through the youth system (not counting McEachran and Hutchinson, who were both loaned). Cahill, Lamps, Cole, and Sturridge all came from other clubs. But since you mean English-born players, why does it matter? This is the best league in the world so it's not a coincidence that the big clubs attract players from all over the world. I agree with you that English players don't go abroad since this is already the best league. David Beckham and Steve McManaman are just some of the English players who went abroad.

Homegrown or english-born, should count for both.

Sorry I missed Ashley Cole from team, but Terry and Lamps were injured, while Bertrand and Danny came on as subs. Josh is overrated and will probably have hard time getting in squad, while Hutch is special case, considering his injuries.

The whole point of this topic was that we should ALSO look at english players, not just buying foreign (and that doesnt mean that foreign players are not good, loyal or give 100% for club). It simply means that since ww are looking for a CM, we should look after english-born players to keep some Balance between foreign and home players. Every club shares a lot sympathies if they have home players. They just give that magic that foreign players cant. Im not talking of skills, but having Lampard as playmaker when he was younger was much more powerfull than having Mata as playmaker and they are both great players, but Lamps has something that Mata will never have. That 'thing' or whatever you call it.

And that guy who was comparing overrated english players like Downing with Hazard has missed the whole point of this tread. Its not about putting shit english players ahead of foreign talent like Hazard, its about ALSO having english talented players who will in next years play as starters along their foreign team mates.

Cheers
