Smallest squad we've had?

  • 1 Petr Cech Was let down by his defenders. He is a goalkeeper, not a magician..
  • 2 Branislav Ivanovic Safe as a centre back only.. He should never play on the right again.
  • 3 Ashley Cole Our best defender no doubt
  • 4 David Luiz Needs to be put in the holding role. He cannot be the last line of defense. Way too risky.
  • 6 Oriol Romeu Stuck behind Mikel and Meireles
  • 7 Ramires Practically useless in the position he is playing
  • 8 Frank Lampard Let's face it, As much as we love him, his style doesn't suit what the club are trying to build
  • 9 Fernando Torres Maybe getting to his best, but is definitely no Didier Drogba..
  • 10 Juan Mata Won't be long till he gets burn-out
  • 11 Oscar Got tons of talent but is still very young
  • 12 Mikel Don't get me started..
  • 13 Victor Moses Pretty exciting prospect. Has talent but lets see how he goes in a top 4 club
  • 15 Florent Malouda Should have been sold
  • 16 Raul Meireles Useful squad player
  • 17 Eden Hazard Best signing since Frank Lampard.
  • 19 Paulo Ferreira Useless
  • 21 Marko Marin When he is fit could be usefull.
  • 22 Ross TurnbullUseless
  • 23 Daniel SturridgeWhen he learns to play for the team and not himself he can be useful. Until then, useless...
  • 24 Gary Cahill Will probably captain the side one day.
  • 26 John Terry Needs to take his defense to an all new level. Our different playing style means he will be on the run most of the time.
  • 28 Cesar Azpilicueta Hopefully the player we have been missing.
  • 34 Ryan Bertrand Good but needs a few years.
  • 40 Henrique Hilario Useless

We are facing a very risky season that could see us slide down the table if we get hit with injuries. We need to blood a few youngsters and hope to god there is a gem among them. We are in really deep shit with Torres and Sturridge being the only strikers we have.. We should have at least kept kalou or Lukaku if we weren't going to sign somebody else..

are people forgetting there is a transfer window in January! if we need more players we will buy some then! our squad is certainly good enough to compete on all fronts until January at least!

Prices are too inflated in the January transfer window. Besides, when has buying a player in January ever helped anybody?

Seriously? I hope you are kidding. He had ONE bad game and some people don't want him to play there anymore. Wake up, open your eyes and start looking at the squad positively. Ivanović is maybe not the very best right back offensively but very, very decent when defending.

Don't agree with other ratings as well but it's pointless to write about each one of them. But that about Ivanović was just stupid.

Off the top of my head, Papis Cisse last season.

I think we are good in terms of numbers, only maybe one light in the striking department. However, short of quality in the most important positions required for the 4-2-3-1. The 2.

In terms of numbers we are, as Justin said, a bit light in the Striker department. In terms of quality we're light just about all over the pitch to be honest.

I don't agree. Our wing and attacking midfield positions are pretty strong and we have a pretty good defense. Midfield is the problem yes and our strikers are yet to prove themselves.

I didn't mean attacking midfield and wings. It's the other areas that are worrying. Defence even more shaky than I had first thought. Double pivots are almost non existent. Striking department a bit light and taking a gamble with Torres and Sturridge.

I don't know what you meant, I know what I've read :D

Yep, defense surprised me also, hopefully things will change. We do have great players there when you look at names though.

You think so? I've pretty much summed it up how i see it. And trust me, I'm one of the least negative on this board.

Our squad is

Goalkeepers: Cech, Turnbull, Hilario

Defenders: Ivanovic, Azpilicueta, Terry, Cahill, Luiz, Cole, Bertrand, Ferreira

Midfielders: Mikel, Lampard, Meireles, Romeu, Ramires, Oscar

Attacking midfielders: Hazard, Moses, Mata, Marin, Oscar, Ramires, Malouda

Strikers: Torres, Sturridge, Bamford/Piazon

In terms of squad, the only teams in the premiership who have a better squad is City and arguably United (think we're pretty much on par, but they may have more quality maybe). We can talk about injuries, but it is all hypothetical. If Spurs lose Bale they'll be in trouble, if Arsenal lose Cazorla they'll be in trouble, if United lose Evra there in trouble. Our squad is easily good enough to get top 4 as well as put up a fight in the cup competitions. Add a CM and Striker and it's good enough to challenge for the League

agree with attacking mid but i disagree with the defence. our defence is over-rated. john terry, david luiz and gary cahill are good defenders on their day but are hardly world class. branislav ivanovic is being turned inside out by championship wingers and him and ashley cole getting forward so often doesn't really help the defence.

May I ask everyone criticizing on here one thing? Would you write the same things about our players before yesterday's game? They had a bad game and this doesn't influence their overall talent. If they continue to perform badly, then I will consider critizing their abilities.
