Arsenal have launched a bid to bring Juventus full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner to north London, according to reports in Italy.

Arsene Wenger is keen to move for the Swiss international in the January transfer window and could strike a deal to secure the 30-year-old's services for nothing, given Lichtsteiner's Juve contract is up in the summer.

According to Sky Sports Italia, the Gunners are in advanced talks with Lichtsteiner and his representatives to seal his switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Lichtsteiner, who can operate across the back four, has been in and out of the Juve side under manager Massimiliano Allegri this term but is known for his ability to get forward from right-back and create chances.

It is not out of the question that Lichtsteiner - linked with Chelsea earlier this year - could still pen a new deal with the Turin club, but Arsenal and Inter Milan are the frontrunners to sign the experienced defender either in January or in the summer when his contract expires.

The source is terrible.Juventus will not sell him but i see some of you saying he is bad maybe you should go to a doctor.

No, he is not a bad player at all. The transfer would be atrociously so I'm afraid and terribly short sighted as well.
He's a right back, so Azpi would be pushed to the left for yet another 32 yo right back, with a back-up option (I'm assuming) consisting of Ivanovic.
He has played in Italy for so long that he will probably need time to adjust, and again he is 32 yo.
Ultimately it's not a RB we need, rather a LB.

I agree his age is the problem but he would be still good for 10m (the source is bad).
