2012/13 Expectations

Fifa Club World Cup >> FA Cup

One is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be crowned world champions, the other is a trophy available every season. I'm not too bothered about the UEFA Super Cup, as it's essentially just a european community shield. The fact we are allowing Courtois to play against us in that, goes to show how little the club cares about it.

I thought we are not allowing Courtois to play against us.

Win all 7 competition by playing sexy football. :Goober:

Seriously speaking, I would be happy with winning the Uefa Super Cup, Club World Cup and maybe one out of the FA Cup and League Cup. Also a comfortable top 3 finish in the league is a must. Don't really know what to expect from the Champions League, obviously reaching the knockout stages is the least you'd expect from the Champions of Europe but I honestly can't predict anything beyond that.

Nevertheless it would be embarrassing to lose to the Europa League champions. It's up to us to maintain CL's reputation, otherwise it would enforce the view from rival fans that we were fluke winners. And it's also rare to participate in it as European champions.

The new players to bed in and have strong seasons to move forward, particularly for Hazard and Oscar who are joining for big money and with big expectations.

Top 3 in the league and within 4-5 points of United and City this year will be good progress. Like others World Club Cup is a once in a lifetime opportunity and a competition we've never competed in let alone won before. To win that and one of the domestic cups along with a much stronger showing in the league will be a good season.

In regards to the Champions League, it seems to be one of those which brings up cycles - Liverpool used to beat us, and then we knocked them out a couple of times; us and Barca have been back and forth knocking each other out - I just have a gut feeling that we'll draw Bayern in the quarter or semi finals and it will be their turn to beat us this season. Although that would be great to host them after their 'our city, our stadium, our cup' arrogance! In any event anything better than the quarter final will be good, winning it again (at Wembley) would be fucking unreal!

I am fully agree with you. The opportunity to be the world Champion doesn't come at you every day. We don't even know if one day we will get the occasion to play in this competition again. Winning this trophy would get us to another level. It would extend our reputation in the whole world. It seems (I am not sure) south americans rate a lot more this competition than what we europeans do. Thus, I presume, we would extend our fan-base, and our reputation as well, in continents such as South America and Asia. No need to tell the good effects it would have on the marketing and to attract players. That's why I hope we win it and don't overlook this trophy.

Community Shield:

Not too bothered really

Capital One Cup:

Again, not bothered how well we do on the condition that are young players are given a chance

UEFA Super Cup:

Would be nice to win it, particularly as it is the last one in Monaco but it will not be the end of the world if we do not win it.

Club World Cup:

This is not too difficult a trophy to win yet it looks got if we can say that we are Champions of the World so I would like us to win this. We only have to play a few games, usually against teams from Asia or the Middle East who I have never heard of. I expect us to win this.

FA Cup:

It is a nice trophy to win and we are a club with a great recent history in this competition so we should go for it. If we go out in the earlier rounds I will not mind too much especially if we give younger players a chance in the earlier rounds. I expect us to get to the quarter finals.

Premier League:

This is probably beyond us for this year at least. Man U always come back stronger when they finish second best so they will be favourites in my opinion. City have not strengthened their squad at all yet but they still have enough quality to finish first or second. I hope we can get third to avoid having to qualify for the Champions League in 2013/14. I am not expecting us to win the league but at the same time 6th place will be nowhere near satisfactory.

Champions League:

Of course we should get to at least the quarter finals unless we draw one of the big teams in the last 16. After then it gets more difficult and there is something in my mind telling me that going out of the CL will not hurt the players as much so it will not be quite as important to them. Don't get me wrong, I expect that most of our players would love to win it again but perhaps not very desperate like we have been in the last few years. I would be happy with Quarter or semi finals.

Is the capital one cup for youth players??

Well, not exactly. It's the same League Cup we've got to know from previous years as the Carling Cup but for next season it's just been re-branded for sponsorship reasons. Obviously there is going to be a lot of youth players involved but that's mainly because it's not as prestigious as the other cups and with such intensive match schedule teams are experiencing it offers a good chance to keep key players fresh for more important games.

Ideally I'd want us to take the title race a little further than we did. However, with City & United still a threat I think we'll need work to do. The squad hasn't clicked in pre-season, the players are still getting to know each other's plays and such as well.

As far as the Champions League goes, I agree with many regarding semi-finals. No team's gone onto retain it, while I'd love for us to be the first a semi would delight me. Then again, when we reach the semi's I'll change my mind and expect for us to win it from there

Also I really want us to win the Carling Cup! We haven't done it for a while, and it feels like something we should just.. do?

3 trophies at the max beyond it would be bonus but one of them has to be Club World Cup (Might take us some time to compete in it again). Top 4 nevertheless.

Most importantly i really expect that we get into proper transition mode where our young guns gets more game time (not that we persist with the remaining deadwood to get results) and we try out different tactics and formations so that when the team gels completely it would be ease to execute them ... being far too optimistic on this ...

to be honest i believe the league is ours!

im big fan of 10 man behind the ball football, is our baby! i hope for god sake! that Roberto diMateo doesn't try to influence full attacking football!

i hate the fact that left back and rb are turned into lwb and rwb.

if we do play like we did in cl + good counters we will dominate the league!

only one Dimateo!!
