🇧🇷 Oscar

Oscar stats last year 35 games played, 7 goals, 9 assists. Not hugely impressive, but not the "pile of rubbish" that some are eluding to on the board. Stats this year 22 GP, 5 goals, 5 assists and a handful of sub appearances. I have to admit he is frustrating at times but definitely is a valuable player for the team.

So, which number 10 the club should buy who would have a good to very good performance each time he's called up to fill the boots of the first choice number 10 and who wouldn't complain about sitting on the bench for quite sometime, considering also that the club would need to buy the first choice number 10?

I don't like Oscar, but he would be a decent option for depth and he shouldn't be the first player to be offloaded. Ivanovic, Ramires, Falcao, Mikel all should be sold before Oscar.

(1) Do we need to continue playing a system featuring a No.10? (2) I didn't say we have to get a No.10 who will perform miracle every time he plays - be it from the start or from the bench. We just need someone who is consistent and certainly more so than Oscar, who after 3 1/2 years here only seems to play well once in every 5 games or so. That's extremely poor standard for a big club like us.

Well, i thought the whole conversation was based on the fact that we'll continue to play a system with a number 10, Oscar being one

Neither did i, Oscar can occasionally put in a good performance, how good, that changes depending from personal views, and that's also why he'd have a proper very good number 10 playing before him in the pecking order.

That said, wouldn't you rather the club gets its act together in defence and midfield before getting rid of the only number 10 at the club?

If the next manager isn't going to play a system that includes a No.10, then why bother keeping Oscar? Better off selling him immediately and if we have to, we can always use Hazard, Willian, Fabregas etc in that position.

As i've said, the whole conversation, at least on my part, started with the thought of keeping a system with a number 10.
However, should we go for a 4-3-3 my opinion wouldn't change, we'd still need to get rid of players like Mikel and Ramires to have an effective midfield before thinking about Oscar.

But i see we're going in circles.

I care more about what the men in discussion did for this club than about their "market valuations".

Think not about money but what paid professional scouts and coaches see in a particular player... And what tier they belong... Big clubs drive valuations up by showing interest in certain players.

not fashionable I know but football is business

Our squad is already cheap enough. We can use more of the oscars and less of the mikels.

Oscar cannot even perform consistently when he's playing week in week out. So, what makes you think he'll do that as a squad player? Keeping a player for depth is one thing but keeping one who is a deadwood is another.

For games like today is why blue fox is right.

It's good to have him for squad depth.

As he can perform against crap team and that's what we need when playing FA cup and capital one.
