We won't, none of the top English clubs 'produce' English talent, you are living in a fantasy land.

THAT'S WHY they are going at such a premium.. because the small clubs know we're not producing them.

Well that's because of management instabilities.

If we believe Mourinho staying here for a long time then he will help bring in some.

Dont know how people say the fee is "excessive". this transfer could be for 10 years so 30 m for a position, where good players are rare is not that bad though. futhermore he is english, which increases the fee even more. great deal, we wasnt brave enough to go for it and take a gamble. would have sorted out our LB position for quite some time but well, we invest money in AMs which we dont even need. You have also to consider that they dont need to sign any LB in the next years, if everything goes right, so thats also saving money for the future.

United pulled off 2 great deals in one day. even if the fee is high, nobody will talk about if they will be succesful .

The guy still has a lot to learn. Even if hes there for 10 or 15 years or not you still remember hes only 18 right now. If he was available for cheaper than 20M and we resigned Ash incase we needed him then sure I'd have been happy to go for him but 30M? Thats ridiculous.

I get the fact we need an English core but overpaying with FFP being more and more influential on what clubs can do in the transfer windows, its better not overspending.

The weird thing is, you clearly recognise that it's a gamble. There is no guarantee that he'll actually live up to the potential he has and even if he does, the £100k p/w that he's reportedly earning is massively unjustified and hugely problematic when you look at the established internationals in our squad who earn less than that.

Your post is a confusing mixture of certainties and hypotheticals.

Terrific signing by United.

Obviously you can't say that until a bit further down the line.

A terrific signing would be going back to the rumours on page one of this thread and signing Shaw for less than £5 million. Buying him at the price that will probably be the highest of his career is not good business, but then neither was the signing of Fellaini and Mata.

we're low on home-grown players.

Yet we just signed a homegrown player who has 89 caps for Spain, has played in a Champions League Final, captained a top four Premier League side and has won La Liga, the World Cup and the European Championship....all for less than United have paid in transfer fees for Shaw.

IF Shaw achieves every measure of his potential than United have probably got value for their purchase. But that's a big IF. £10 million for Franny Jeffers and £15 million for David Bentley could've been bargains if they'd maxed out their potential too, but there's a reason it's called potential.

No left back is worth 30million. the back four of Zabaleta Cahill Kompany Baines cost less than Shaw

United bid 20 m pounds or something like this for Baines, didnt they?

Zabaleta came 2008 and was at that moment, not one of the best RBs in the world or the league. Futhermore RBs are cheaper than LBs.

Cahill had only 1 year on his contract.

Kompany was an ok defender for Hamburg but turned into a beast for City. So really, cant compare anyone of those with Shaw.

Signing is perfect. A little overpriced, but if it goes the way it normally should, they are set for 10 years in a position where good players are rare and futhermore have one homegrown spot filled.

@The only place to be:

I agree with you upon the fact, that they are taking a gamble. In terms of wages, we dont know. some are reporting 75 k others 100 others 120. 75 would be ok I think. You have to see that they arent in the CL this year so they have o pay more, to bring players to their club. Yes, it is a gamble, but sometimes you have to tike gambles in life. I would rather take a 30 m Shaw gamble, than a Torres+Shevchenko gamble, like we did back in the years. It aint like our club isnt doing this type of things. We bought Drogba+ Essien for crazy money, but it paid out. At the beginning people were talking about the huge price tag, but who is now talking about it? Only thinkg we are talking about is being Drogba a legend of this club and Essien of the best midfielders in the last few years. If he flops, yes, they made a mistake, but he still has re-sell value as he is really, really young. They could probably get 50%-30% of the paid price for him, so they wouldnt lose that much money. All in all as I said, if you take all factors in consideration, that transfer is a great one. He could be something Ashley has been for us.

not comparing those players to shaw. that's weird. it just shows you can get good defenders for cheap prices.

Mourinho is perfectly capable of signing a young LB in the upcoming years. Hopefully we will be perfectly fine with Luis for some time. No need to panic MU-style for an English LB. It's a long-term investment, but a dangerous one too, because he is very young + very expensive.

No, the top clubs will not be 'producing' English talent anytime soon, it's got nothing to do with managerial instability. We'll continue poaching players from other clubs, if we want to compete. Whilst the smaller clubs will develop them and sell them off for a premium; and they can, because they're the only ones doing it.

Better buy a cheaper, more experienced foreign player (Wolfsburg's Ricardo Rodriguez, perhaps?) than overpay a talent just because he's English...

You're supporting an English club, so show some respect.

You must have hated every second of being a Chelsea fan when we had Ash, Lamps, JT, J. Cole etc representing us. It's so important for the culture of english football for the TOP clubs to have representation.
