Is the injury lingering with him?

Surely there is a reason he isn't starting today?

"You never know with injuries but I’m not feeling any pain now, I’m 100 per cent fit and I’m ready to play.

‘We have four very important months and I think the manager wants me to be fresh. I’ve been out for a month, which is a long time. Sometimes you can come back too quickly and you end up getting injured again."

Get the feeling we're resting him for the Champions league and FA cup games.

Super interesting read.

“This is the first time this has happened to me, but it was always going to happen at some stage. You have to learn from it. I’m a human being, not a machine. I’ve been a professional since I was 16, so maybe that has had an influence too.” By the time Hazard turned 25 last month he had already played 446 senior games for clubs and country. Lionel Messi had 431 to his name at that age, and Cristiano Ronaldo 407. When the Belgian limped off with a groin strain at Crystal Palace four days before his birthday, he had mustered 186 appearances in three years. His workload has been onerous.

Surprised no one has picked this bit up...

The prospect of missing out on the Champions League next term would normally be abhorrent, particularly for a player whose decision to reject other suitors and move to Stamford Bridge four years ago was sealed when Roberto di Matteo’s sixth-placed side claimed the trophy in Munich and guaranteed further involvement. But, when you languish 16 points off the top four with 14 games to play, reality kicks in. So could he cope with a season-long absence from the competition now? “When you’re used to playing every year in the Champions League, then yes. Even if missing out for a year, for for the club, would be difficult. Financially.

“Playing in the Champions League was important to me. So, if Chelsea hadn’t won it, I doubt I would have signed. But, this year, we’ll be where we deserve to be. If we’re not in the Champions League, we’ll not have deserved to be in it. We’ll not have done enough to make the top four. You can eat away at 10 or 11 points very quickly, but it’s easier if you still have 30 matches to play. We only have 14 so I think the Premier League is finished. So we’ll have to win [the European Cup] to qualify. Why not? Look at 2012. That’s why I always say we have to target the Champions League.”

Yeah doesn't sound promising from what i gathered from that. We either win the CL this season or it's very likely he'll leave. I hope we get as much as possible out of Madrid.

That's not the point. He basically said winning the Champions League is a big target now since we can't get into the competition via the league. But if we don't get into it for next season, he can cope without it for a year because we haven't done well to qualify.

Its easy to say this in an interview, but at the end of the season i would be surprised if he sticks to his word and stays at Chelsea if Real come in for him. I would be ecstatic if he stays loyal to us, but his words in an interview mean nothing to me. Who would you like to bring in to replace him if he leaves? Griezmann?

It's easy to say Griezman, Pogba or say Dybala etc but a massive sticking point, and I mean massive is the CL. Yes we can offer big money in wages and fees etc but the CL is a massive pull, we ain't getting in that top 4 and that for me is a massive bollock dropped. I can't see Hazard staying because the board will see pound signs and jump at it and it will be a summer of Miazga type signings, so strap yourselves in.

This probably won't be popular since they're both from Belgium and yet one is 5x as popular as the other, but if Hazard does indeed leave, just go after Carrasco. I don't think i've seen a player so similar to Hazard. I'd say though that his dribbling is actually more effective, but he's slower. I'd rather Hazard but Carrasco is near enough to that special level himself, & 3 years younger too.

Spoiler

(Ideally we line up with Hazard - Willian - Carrasco) next season though.)

If you don't care what he said in the interview, then why even bother replying to the post in the first place?
