strange to say but Felaini was badly missed today

Ow yes. Very much so. We tend to downplay him, but in his form, he destroyes. Maybe underrated a tad. He is much more defining than Witsel. I wouldnt want him near Chels. He seems to have missed the boat.

I watched the entire match. I'm sorry that was the most frustrating match ever. I don't know how every Belgium fan didn't throw a chair at their TV. Wilmots has been there for so long, wtf has he actually done football wise? Do they realize they have fucking HAZARD on their team? One of the best players in the world and they almost play like they are purposely trying to ignore him. This team should have been built around Eden and should have been a well-oiled machine by now. Instead, it seems like the only real discernible tactic they have is to launch balls to Fellaini and without him, it looked like it was the first time they were playing with each other. Wtf is Wilmots actually doing?

watching game i thought I could do at least the same job as Wilmots - do million crosses and pray. It's sad for Belgium because for few minutes in first and second half where they speed it up they were looking likee top class. Few minutes only..

Ugh, I'm kind of in the dark about what Belgium needs.
Ok, Wilmots isn't a tactical genius, yes, but every big international team these days seems to have trouble with lesser countries parking the bus.
Everyone seems to forget Germany was almost fucked against Algeria for example during the world cup.

It's not normal that in one week we completely destroy one of the top teams in Europe and then fail to beat a shit team with 2 good players (who got a goal for free).

You can say Mourinho for example would be far superior as a manager, and that's true. But Chelsea kind of played like shit for almost the entire second half of the season as well...

Is it Wilmots' fault players purposely seem to ignore both Hazard and De Bruyne? Is it his fault none of our fucking crosses were any good? Is it his fault they are so desperate to start playing long balls against Wales? I'm guessing he didn't instruct them to do so. Fellaini is such an important player against teams like this...

I think the Belgian players just like the guy (they practically begged him to stay) but that they mostly like him because he lets them do whatever the hell they want. They need an asshole manager right now who'll just bench players that don't listen. That would be the thing to do.

Wilmots is garbage but there's no excuse for Hazard to play as passively as he does for Belgium. This season he was constantly demanding the ball & he's always involved. In a Belgian kit it's like he's one of many others. A player of his ability should be doing more, take on the fullbacks more rather than always drifting inside, take more shots, play more on the shoulders of defenders, put in more crosses etc

Oh and me thinks Belgium players overrate their own ability a tad too much. There's no reason a nothing player like Vertonghen should be constantly waving Hazard off or taking direct free kicks. They've won absolutely nothing yet arrogantly play as if they were Brazil or Spain.

We don't really have a free kick specialist except for Januzaj who got barred by LVG's "super" transfers.

The ten commandments or "How to fix Belgium":

1. throw out all Tottenham players (present and future, if a time machine is built... the past as well).

2. throw out Lukaku.

3. throw out Wilmots.

4. teach our strikers that yes, when an assist is given, you actually need to run forward to tap it in; telekinesis does not exist.

5. strikers must now take a peek at the goal before taking a shot.

6. players that pass the ball backwards more than X amount of times during a game will become bench warmers.

7. fast ball circulation will be mandatory; players failing to maintain it will be dropped from the selection (hence point 1).

8. having a high FIFA ranking means opponents will park the bus and not allow you much space; henceforth, Hazard will be your god (and point 2)

9. Hazard will follow courses to develop leadership skills

10. Courtois is your backup god

Agree. When I hear people say Hazard should score more, I always think that you can't force yourself to be a goal-scorer. People just need to accept the fact that Hazard is not that type of player. But you can kill your opponent in other ways, and that's where Hazard will have to make strides, because it's his goal to become the best player in the world.

But like you said, this passiveness can not be excused. Can't help but feel he takes it easy for Belgium for some reason, most of the time anyway. I don't know what it is. But I will say that yesterday wasn't all on him. Bar the first 15, 20 min, the ball circulation was far too low and Hazard did not receive the ball in the areas he should have. His off the ball movement was good but they either ignored him or lacked vision to read his movement and reach him. This is where Belgium's lack of a good passer/playmaker in the midfield hurts them.

Belgium have this weird thing of not being able to perform well consistently. Some kind of psychological issue they have. But they should also realise that they do have to work really, really hard to achieve succes, harder than previous succes teams. They're good players but they're not world-class players. Think the golden generation talk has gone to their head. Teams like France, Brazil, Italy, Spain possessed genuine world-class players when they won World and European cups.
