As one who does not rate Hazard as highly as others around here do, for very specific reasons (that I won't revisit at this time), I'd be totally OK if Chelsea made him one of the highest paid footballers in order to keep him.

If that's what we have to do to compete with the likes of RM and Barcelona, then so be it. Call it the london tax, or the "not being Barca/RM fee", whatever. If there is an opening, that he is indeed settled in london, and there is price to retain his services, then just fucking do it!

Although I agree with you, I think giving Eden those kind of wages would fuck up the wage structure. Football is a team game and you can't have one guy earning 500k a week whilst others are in that 200k-ish bracket

It's all very simple. If we qualify for the CL next season, I think he will sign a new contract. If we don't, its' bye bye time for Eden.

Maybe we could offer a deal which includes a relatively low release clause should we fail to qualify again?

Sure, but why would it be any different than the other WC players in other teams? I mean every team has the (or more than one) high earner. No other player in the squad is as famous or as impactful as Hazard. Kante comes close, but attacking players, esp creative types will always earn more.

Look at it from a diff perspective: if we go into the market looking for a Hazard type, a player ready to do what he does, we would have to break the bank (if we find and manage to convince him to join us). So, in all likelihood, the only other option (to hazard staying) would be making bets on youngsters/not yet ready players - hardly the same thing.

So, if there is an opening, the club should def go all in. Now, if there is no opening no chance of him staying (the club has to know either way!), then I'd say we are wasting time and should be already making those bets and/or trying to attract a replacement.

I dont see any problem in players being paid different amounts from each other.

just like any job theres a different wage structure for every person. The better you are and the more important to your company then the more you get.

I just wish it wasn't a bribe but more of a thank you.

Why bother giving him the new contract  then?

That means if we dont get top 4 then he leaves on the cheap. But without a contract at least we get a more reasonable payback.

its funny. We rake the Mick out of clubs whose players go thru contract wrangles and we have a doozy of our own!

Well yeah, it's the risk we have to take to keep him, if he doesn't sign a new deal and we don't make top 4 this year he will likely leave for even cheaper. Aslong as we keep making CL (which i can't imagine us not doing with this squad now we have a manager who won't lose his nut when not given a blank cheque) then we keep him, seems fair to me.

Cool

But then why should we give him the contract if its still possible he leaves either way.

Might as well leave it till next summer.

Thats not a gamble

If we make the top 4  he will sign then. And we save a years pay rise

What worries me more tho is just gow bad this might end up.

Willian for 1 wont be in a good frame of mind about playing 2nd fiddle to Pedro - even to we are reportedly going to offer him 2 years plus a rise!!

Luiz theres a chance that if his defensive brainfarts cause too much trouble he will be benched for AC. Him and Willian on the bench together can only be bad!

IF we aren't making the top 4 then the sulky moping Eden will come out too - not a happy thought.

So we have the potential for a shit hot season or a proper sulkfest

Stop all this bullshit of offering willian a two years contract... He ain't good enough....period! The reason willian was not sold is sarri and I think he can see and as the season pans out that willian is a limited player and can't even contribute goals vital to Sarri style of play...

Check our fresh links to Pulisic...so I can categorically tell you the club is ever willing to improve that right wing and add quality....In Eden case I don't know what to say other than if he doesn't want to stay let them sell him for good chunk of money £160 -  £180 and reinvest on quality players... We play a football now not reliant on individual skill sets but team work....don't get me wrong but the tone of people right here makes you think after Eden no more Chelsea...

His gobs flapping again

Eden Hazard's dad fears Chelsea forward will "never end up" at Real Madrid - Zinedine Zidane might be to blame

Chelsea are planning to revive their attempts to keep Hazard and offer him a £300,000-per-week deal

If he refuses a new contract, we dont sell him, and he leaves on a free, whoever gets him only gets 4 months basically of a non 30yo Eden. His body has taken a pounding, moreso than perhaps any other major star in football over the last 8 years. I cannot see him playing at top level into his mid 30's.

If Real wanted him they should have forked over the £200m on first day of the window, either this year or last summer.

They will be far less hurt by never getting him than we will be if we have to sell him on the cheap or let him leave on a free in 22 months. Hopefully he just renews and says fuck it about Real. We NEED TO 100% MAKE THE CL for next year. It will be catastrophic to fail in that. Hazard will leave for sure and many of our players are ageing rapidly. Azpi turns 30 next summer, Luiz 32 in spring, Fabregas 32, Willian 31, Pedro 32, Cahill 33 in December, Giroud 32 in a month.

I know mate. I still dont understand why RM want him as they have that LW sorted and Edens not a CR7.

I see theres more chance of ZZ wanting him come Jan at Manure.

We will shortly have 1 big problem with players ages and contracts. Not only the old ones you mentioned but Ampadu and CHO whose contract expires same as Edens. They are bound to be tempted by the big boys. With CHO already been with us 11 years we need to show him love faith and trust right now or that kids outta here.

I still don't think that Madrid want him all that badly.  We gave them a chance, and they made an offer that everyone knows is a lowball.  Hazard knows it too.  Neymar to Madrid makes too much sense for everyone.

Except Neymar is yet another LW.

It's almost like RW doesn't even matter (in terms of actually signing new people) to the clubs we all talk about, including us.

Manure doesnt even have a single real RW on the team, yet Mo is obsessive over LW Perisic for multiple windows. RM with Eden and Neymar. Atm there is a deeper amount of class LWers than RWers in the big leagues. Around a plus 20.

Perisic is like a MF Swiss army knife as hes comfy all over the MF.As with Eden/Neymar they are adaptable. But you're right about RWers. Whys that I wonder? Maybe why Mou wanted Willian?

Of course, Wllian would fill a huge hole. I was willing to fill it for them IF we got Martial in return. Ideally, we should have sold Willian to Barca for £65m, then bought Malcom (he only ended up being £37m for Barca) and then dumped in another £45m or to the remaining £28m left over post Malcom and outright bought Martial. Sell Drinkwater (WTF!!!!) to cover some of the spend.

We would have spent a net £15m to £20m or so and had Martial (22), Malcom (21), and unloaded deadweight Drinkwater. The team would so SO MUCH stronger than now. Our board is shit, sorry, but it is.

It amazes me that Waterboy has one of the longest contracts in operation with us for another 4 years and is on £120k a week ffs!! How the fuck does that happem?

Where is Willian goimg once Edens fit?

.Our board is in need of a overhaull.

£6m a year to ride the bench. Great job if you can get it. SMDH
