Kojo 4,676
Why are people so bothered about the price tag?, but not even bothered about the wages, you do know it's the wages what cost more money or just about near enough the price tag.
TorontoChelsea 4,064
If the Hulk deal fails to materialize, who are some other world class RW's that are possible?Don't think we need another RW. If we play the 4-2-3-1, what's wrong with Ramires on the right with Marin as cover? If we play the 4-3-3, Sturridge excelled in that system and Marin can play there was well. We would need another striker though.
Madmax 9,219
From the always excellent Carefree Chronicles : Snap Shots of Hulk against MexicoHIS MOVE TO Chelsea is still in the works but I watched today's Brazil 2-0 Mexico game with some interest to study Hulk's performance. Brazil had a disappointing game: they were unable to create clear-cut chances despite holding possession for the majority of the game. Hulk, however, had a decent game playing on the right side of the attack. On a different day, he would have had 2 assist and won a penalty for his team but some incorrect refereeing and poor finishing let the big man down.Positioning <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ptayjE2Uw94/T8vWp3C-OfI/AAAAAAAACdo/FW1M0S3pkto/s1600/Hulk%27s+Positioning.png" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"> Picture 1. Hulk's Positioning Hulk started on the right side of Brazil's attacking 4-2-3-1 formation. When the ball was played through the center or from the right, Hulk stayed very wide stretching the field horizontally. However, when Brazil came forward down the left, Hulk would drift toward the center, either alongside the central striker Damiao or slightly deeper in the attacking midfield position. This is nothing new really: it is exactly what is expected of a wide forward these days. When he got the ball on the right, his primary mode of attack was cutting onto his favorite left and taking a shot at goal (not very different from what Sturridge was doing in the first half of last season for Chelsea). Majority of Hulk's attempts were on target but blocked. However, he didn't get to attack the passes from the left by getting into the box from the right because Neymar and Marcelo had a pretty underwhelming game on Brazil's left. The only meaningful cross from the left came in the second half when Hulk temporarily switched to the left wing (more on that later).Pressing and Tracking Back Picture 2. Hulk's Pressing and Tracking Back In defensive mode, Hulk responsibly covered his right fullback by pressing diligently and tracking back whenever necessary. His work rate in this game was admirable considering that he had just played over 80 minutes against USA just four days ago. One instance in particular stands out. During the first half, Hulk took a freekick for Brazil from the right side (by the way, he's a very competent set-piece taker too). The ball was eventually cleared and Mexico broke very quickly down Brazil's right. Hulk tracked all the way back into his half and by the time the ball was cleared out for a throw-in, Hulk was one of the last three Brazilian players in the defensive zone (Picture 2, lower frame).Creating Chances Picture 3. Two Chances Created by Hulk Brazil had plenty of possession in this game but they could only create a couple of clear-cut chances -- two of which were crafted by Hulk. In the first half, Hulk, from a central position, lifted the ball over the Mexican defensive line to put Damiao through; the striker put the ball in the net but it was incorrectly ruled offside. The vision and execution of this pass was top notch. Mata would have been proud to have made this kind of supply. The next chance came late in the second half when Hulk temporarily moved to the left wing. He beat this marker down the flank before making a low cross for Pato to tap in from close-range. Easier to score than miss but the AC Milan player decided to take on the tougher task of completely missing the target.THE BIG MAN himself had a couple of chances but most of them were shots from outside the box and were blocked by an organized Mexican defense. He also had an individual run into the box that ended with a penalty shout when the Mexican defender shoulder-checked him. All in all, it was a very promising outing by the prospective Chelsea player. It is even more encouraging that Hulk can have a good game while his team is not playing at their best.Apologies if already posted somewhere. TorontoChelsea 4,064
World class players don't come cheap and IMO 38m is a fair deal. What makes Hulk a "world-class" player? I hate the term because it's so subjective, but you simply can't call a player world class based on 2 very good years in the Portuguese league and nothing else. He's had minimal success in the UCL and with Brazil. Is Oscar Cardoza a world class player? He's had more success in Portugal, in Europe, and for his country than Hulk has. Now, Hulk has the skills to go to a better league and be a world class player, but he's not there yet.

They're are players who are good but them 5 are on another level. Hazard will be there soon, Hulk could too, if he adapts to the PL and replicates his success in the worlds best league! Also years ago Torres would of been on that world class list because simply he was untouchable as a striker, before Messi switched a CF. Maybe even Zlatan Ibrahimovic too? Was unreal for Inter and Juventus.Still Hulk would be an amazing signing for us as we don't have great wingers now and tbh if Mata and Hazard play I see them interchanging and swapping positions so none of them will be playing as a winger for the full 90 minutes. BlueLyon 9,359
Cristiano Ronaldo, he is basically the complete player. From the ones we can buy, Hulk is just special. To be that fast at such bulky body...no one else is. Besides he is fantastic footballer, I started watching him when Lopez and Lucho were still at Porto, I want him to come to Chelsea, trust me he is worth those 35mio. Prices have gone up nowdays, Caroll, Downing, Ibra, Robinho, Ibra are good exapmples.
TorontoChelsea 4,064
He is world class.Name me one player so strong and fast as Hulk?First of all, Hulk's name is misleading. He's not this bullish physical player the way Drogba is. Hulk is listed at 5'11, 150 LBs. Drogba is 6' 2'', 185. Hulk is not going to out-muscle Premier League defenders who are just much bigger. He is not really an inside player anyway. He liked to come in from the right on his left foot and shoot not play with his back to the goal. What Hulk is, is actually a typical Brazilian skill/moves kind of player with the added benefit of a cannon for a left foot. Secondly, who are you comparing Hulk to? Portuguese league defenders? Hulk definitely has speed, but among the fastest in the world? I doubt anyone would claim that. Ramires is certainly faster and Sturridge and Torres might be as well. Hulk has excellent skills, but there are tons of players with fabulous skills who can't put it together as top footballers and some top footballers who manage to succeed without the greatest skills. Muniain could be a better long term option as he is young and if he doesn't adapt straight away he wont end up wasting money for someone who is more or less in their prime. Plus his release clause is what 30 million? Fuck letting Real/Barca getting him.
