Certain players play their best football at the age of 29-33 while others like Rooney or Fabregas simply get burned out and lose their legs. Also its not the same for centre-backs, goalkeepers and wingers. I disagree with that rule because it has nothing to do with whats happening on the pitch. There are ways to sign a long term contract with the wages being gradually reduced or stuff like that. The problem is it's hard to tell who will keep up a good level, on paper Rooney should have gone well into his 30's while Giggs should have lost it early 30's but the reality was the opposite. At that age father time is potentially a stones throw away, players often lose their powers almost overnight. While i can agree the odd exception should be made i am very happy to know we won't let the grass grow under our feet again. Unionjack 7,531
I dont understand what Luiz's problem is. He keeps going on about his love for us which I kinda believe. But he knows as well as everyone our contract situation. IF he was secure in himself he would accept the year and make sure he stayed at the level where we need him to be. As long as he was playing at or near his best I'm sure he would get it renewed/ What stronger incentive does he need. If he was given 2/3 years and didn't stat on form we could still be getting shot of him after a year. Vesper and Bosnian Blue

Hernandez missed Atletico’s 1-0 loss to Espanyol on Saturday and manager Diego Simeone will not stand in his way from moving to Munich in January. “Every decision is personal and I respect them,” Simeone said. “Lucas is a young lad with a good present and an even better future. I hope he stays with us. He will be 32, who will gibe him a 3 year contract which is what I saw he wanted.
