Plus i never said that white gangs were acceptable either ALL should be dealt with severely. However theirs a distinct lack of respect among some sections of the black community in London towards the police, exacerbated by shit like rap music which teaches people to value "money over everything" and women as objects

I'd wager probably half to two thirds of Black criminals are from the working classes. Not that that's an excuse, it points to long term structural problems within the social stratification of British society that can't be sorted 'sharpish'.

Surely music has nothing to do with crime. It may be glamourised in modern music but it's not so long ago that Mafia culture was glamourised by films like Godfather and Goodfellas. Did that really influence a generation of Italian's/Italian-American's to join the Mafia?

Interesting. Why might that be, that working class White's aren't as likely to become criminals as working class Black's? I will take a guess and say the upbringing of them as children, particularly parenting style has a large influence.

Exactly my friend and so that leads back to my point that elements of the black community need to sort themselves out. White kids in the north aren't as exposed to the "glamour"of gang culture as black children are in London and my original message was of anger towards the authorities who have been sickeningly soft on the issue nationwide.

The rap excuse is a cliche, we're living in a society where the prevalent message is 'money over everything' anyway, or as we all refer to it as 'capitalism'. As cap eluded to before, the problem is structural not simply race. Black men are not in gangs because they choose to be (although I'd agree there's a small % that may feel inspired by that life). Until the problem of being a 'minority' isn't a factor this trend will continue.

It's not just the black community that should 'sort themselves out', it's society on a whole. I don't dare to make excuses for people who don't make any feasible attempt to help themselves, but the section of people who are being abandoned by society are the minority.

As exemplified by the London riots. Where there was a correlation between the poorest areas of London & high rates of rioting.
