I'm surprised RDM is willing to accept a one year trial but from the club's point of view this is the ideal situation. Maybe there just weren't any other good options for Robbie at the moment and he's trying prove himself to the board during this one year and if he succeeds then his future is guaranteed.

It is the right thing to do, after winning the CL getting a long contract might make Robbie and Eddie complacent in a way, this way they will motivated to keep improving themself's and the team with the reward off a long contract at the end and potentially build a legacy here.
