The Roberto Di Matteo Thread

If we buy a new manager it is back to square one.

Thats a huge point to consider. Robbie has worked with the players for a year now and will know who is dispensable in the squad.

The lack on continuity has allowed some average players longer Chelsea careers than perhaps they should have.

If I was DiMatteo, I would tell Gourlay, Buck and Roman to shove the manager's post up their arse. One week since our greatest victory and they still keep DiMatteo Waiting? Talk about disrespecting the legends of the club.

This guy saved Roman millions by taking a team in shambles to the greatest end to the season the club has witnessed and they still keep him waiting. Makes him look like the last choice. It is outright humiliating.

I think they are well aware of his (huge, huge, huge) contribution and its significance. It looks to me like they're trying to approach this issue with reason and logic (which don't always work). There are still questions about Bobby and those questions have to be answered. Logically maybe he's the closest candidate to getting the job? Both Bobby and Roman are staunch supporters of the club and that has got to count for something.

If he was going to be given the job surely it would have been announced already :(

It's going to be Capello I feel

I totally agree,I think RDM will reject a 1 year extension just so Chelsea don't take the heat of sacking the man who brought FA and UEFA Champions League success to the club in such a short-term spell.A real lack of respect to the great manager.

Appointing a manager is a lengthy process, its only been a week since the final. Everyone needs to time to relax from that first and then there'd need to be interviews etc and his plans for the team etc. A week is by no means a long time so i don't think we could use that to think Rdm hasn't got the job

So we can add Maradona to the list of footballing names who have given robbie praise

http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2012/05/26/3127803/maradona-hails-chelsea-after-champions-league-success

“Tactics, humility and intelligence played a major role. Inheriting a divided and defeated team, Di Matteo first had to restore harmony in his dressing room.

“Above all, he instilled in his team a warrior spirit and character, getting the most out of his players by making the forwards defend and the midfielders attack.

“Chelsea were not the most talented team in the Champions League but they were certainly the team that wanted to win the most. Hats off to this group of veteran warriors,” he concluded.

Thing is if its not to be RDM and we start looking now elsewhere its a bit daft.AVB got sacked months ago and should've started looking then rather then now..

Exactly!!! Carlo had a whole summer transfer window to work with as well which was a huge advantage. The way it seems to work with Chelsea is they end up having a short time to access the squad, make decisons etc and then fans moan why players didnt get the boot during that time...if you havent spent a whole season with them then chances are the nebiw wont know where issues lie.

The most logic choice, and what I think will happen, is giving RDM a 1 year contract and with additions to the team if he can achieve something decent like say PL title (or 2nd place with FA cup) and a decent result in the CL (semi finals) he will surely be the natural choice for a long-term coach.

The thing that is so logical to chose RDM is firstly that he as "reunited" the team, he won the bloody CL with THAT team and THOSE players injured/ineligable to play plus he clearly has HUGE passion for Chelsea. We need a manager who loves the club, not one who is just interested in doing a decent job and earn shitloads of cash.

I think RDM can be our "special one" :)

Because it seems we like to make everything as complicated as possible and draggg the situation out.And then annouce it at the most random times.Like Scolari half way through the Euros ...Surprise!

Liverpool moved really quick! Random choice but still theyve had a few weeks and got something sorted...we've had several months and still nothing at the moment for definate.
