Got to agree. The world cup does complicate things a bit.

But I'm against the club making a few millions in profit at the expense of KDB's career.

I understand completely!

But I just feel that this is the type of stance the club will have to take in future with situations like this considering FFP is looming. I don't think we can just continue to be extorted when buying players and then sell a quality player with massive potential at a cut-price just because he's a nice guy and want what's best for him and his career.

I don't think a price around £25m would be completely unreasonable after the WC. Especially if you consider that Schalke are supposed to putting a price of €40m on Draxler's head, a player not too much younger than KDB and had similar stats to him last season in the Bundesliga despite player playing further forward.

We'll agree to disagree on this point though! :)

You know what would help with the financial fair play rules?

Actually producing quality youngsters every year and then introducing them into the main squad. It's like... FREE players.

;-)

I'd love that too but it's a lot easier said than done at this level!

Arsenal have been trying it for years, but they've won absolutely nothing for 8 years. That sort of time is just not afforded at a club like Chelsea, especially when we have Roman - who sacked Carlo a year after winning the double...

Besides, the fact that Arsenal are beginning to challenge again after going out and spending big bucks for once (Ozil) is no coincidence! ;)

Man Utd kinda did it in a way... (well more than most in the PL, and less in recent years)

Barcelona is doing quite well with most of the team actually from their own academy...

It's hard, but if you really commit to it, it should be possible. A little long term thinking is needed in football.

Arsenal btw stopped winning when all of the other top teams got a rich foreign owner. :P

Also, I'm not saying you should not buy big names anymore. Just buy the right ones and don't go spending 20 million just to expand the squad. The Ozil signing is a perfect example of that. They bought a player they really really needed.

If we are so sure about him going to become great, throw in a bonus clause then. For example if he scores 20 goals or having more than 10-15 assists in a single season for the next 3 years then we can add on £5-£10m to the original price. So eventually it would end up a good fee if he really becomes that good anyway. For now he look like a £15m player with potential for more, but then again not every player realize their potential.

Excuse me Blue, but do you think those folks at Wolfsburg are crazy ? They offered 12m, take it or leave it. Plenty of others around for 12m.

Saw De Bruyne play against us some years ago. he had a great game and he looked a really good prospect. But since we bought him he has not kicked on and really shown that potential, and I don't think he is good enough to nail down a spot in our starting eleven. He is nowhere as good as Oscar, Hazard, Willian, Mata or Schurrle so let him go and take the best offer we receive. Otherwise he will start to lose value rotting in the reserves.

Remember we are Chelsea, and not all the good players we buy can get into our team...............only the GREAT ones get into it.

And I,m afraid Kevin De Bruyne is not in that category.

United of the early 90s aren't comparable because they went decades without a league title while Giggs, Beckham, the Neville's etc. were all coming through. They had the time to invest in youth.

Don't get me started on the monopoly Barca have on pretty much everything in Spain, nevermind young Spanish players.

I agree though that it would be nice to have a few coming through and I believe some deserve a chance, like Chalobah. But sadly, unless a rule comes in that forces clubs to actually use their homegrown talent, then I don't see things changing for a club like us who demand exceptionally high standards every season.

yes they are. they have Volkswagen behind them so money aint no issue. Diego is earning 8 m per year for example.

Think he is as good as Oscar was just not given enough chances at CFC, remember last season when everyone was bashing Oscar and calling KDB better than him. His just a victim of our champ league success to be honest, him and Marin

Don't think he's mentally tough enough yet to make it as a top player. I could be wrong but who knows. He was loaned out to two teams where he was guaranteed to start every game unless he was injured, comes back to a club with competition, has to adapt to a more demanding philosophy and win his place, didn't do it so who knows.

#debruyne of @chelseafc is close to #wolsburg for 18 milion pounds

==============

This is good value and should help finance potential Matic deal

I'm dying at this tweet. The posters claiming he isn't worth anywhere near £15m+ are nowhere to be seen anymore.

Wolfsburg are paying for his potential as well as his spell for Belgium and at Wolfsburg last season. He's still an excellent player he just has to compete with Hazard, Oscar, Schurrle and Willian. That's simply too much competition.

Wish him the best of luck at Wolfsburg and for Belgium. A potential trio of KDB, Hazard and Januzaj seems mouthwatering.
