I have a pc at work but thank God it doesn't belong to me, I hate it and IT has everything locked down, I can't even change my desktop background without IT being involved We have two dells in storage but we hadn't used either of them in over 2 years before the move!Most of my computer troubles are due to the quality of my internet connection due to my location than anything else. It's rather stringent especially in regard to political topics, past and present, that involve the Chinese government. Granted I'm computer minded (building my own etc) so mine are well looked after. But I never get viruses. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials, which I can't recommend highly enough. I believe it is just the OS on the iPad and iPhone that doesn't allow flash. Maybe one of the computer gurus will know more about the whys of this...Yes, the Chinese government censors the internet especially anything that has to do with politics or that speaks badly about the government. They also ban social media. There are ways around it but I still watch what I say and read... just to be safe. On top of that the internet can be very slow and downloading things can take ages! I use MSE, CCleaner, and Malwarebytes. I generally would only use Malwarebytes if I had something and wanted to double check it was gone. But as I said, I haven't had any viruses in a long time. I'd recommend it as it's free and uses very little system resources.The thing is, you never want too many of these things, particularly pieces of software that are running in the background. They'll usually become a memory hog and slow performance (depending on the machine's capabilities obviously) and moreso, if one or more is running at once, can conflict with one another and end up only doing half the job.Using the right software and knowing what and what not to click when online will generally make for a virus free system.I use MSE too and have liked it - updates regularly, scans quickly but... the latest pain in the ass virus I've seen pop up on both computers is the "Windows Security Tool Virus". The problem with that (as far as I know) is that it requires the user of the computer to actually accept it. That is to say, at some point it popped up with a dialogue box and asked for permission to run and the user hit "yes". Either that or it was bundled with some other unsavoury type of software and it's had permission to run. It usually rears it's ugly head as a pop up advert explaining it has detected X amount of viruses on your computer and you should run a test. Unfortunately, people fall for it.If I recall correctly, it kills your task bar and most basic functions when you log on to windows. I had to get round it by booting in safe mode which allowed me to run the task manager kill it off and run a specific tool that's out there to DL to wipe it. Quite a few sites I visit frequently still use Adobe Flash. Our next computer purchase will probably be a Macbook. Went to the Apple Store the day after Xmas and it was a madhouse.
