Prem could get goal-line technology next season

Goal-line technology could be coming to the Premier League as early as next season.

If current trials on a number of systems work, the FA are prepared to bring in cameras for the 2012-13 campaign, according to general secretary Alex Horne.

He said: "Goal-line technology would be a huge boost for the game. For years we've thought this was a good addition to referees' armoury."

An independent testing panel employed by FIFA is examining nine systems and Horne added: "It's possible we could see it in the Premier League as early as 2012-13," he told the BBC.

How many controversial goal line decisions do we see a season? like... 2? lol although it'd be nice to see, it would be a waste of money.

We need video challenges for offsides more-so for example if the goal is scored, look at a replay. The ball would be dead as it's in the net so u wouldn't have to stop the game. If the attacker misses torresesque, just play on as it wouldn't matter. Common sense.

Bad idea.

Football without the controvertial referees decisions is not football.

Football is 2 teams playing to win... referees just spoil it if they suck, and they can continue sucking with on-field decisions, but legit goals MUST be counted when they cross the line or not counted when they do not - it is the single most important thing in football and it's an area which should be dealt with without any shadow of a doubt and controversy, unlike penalty decisions or which team to give the odd throw in.. Remember the phantom goal that fucked us over? I'm all for that technology.

I do, kind of, agree with what Henrique's saying. Sometimes football comes down to luck. But then we have situations like Barcelona, where it's so blatant the bad decisions have affected the game.

For me, and for now, it should be down for goal-line decisions only. Not penalties, offsides, etc.

In two minds about this now.

If we eradicated refereeing errors through technology or stamped out ‘simulation’, would that make football better? I don’t think so. Football is drama not science. Controversy adds colour. It is part of football’s folklore. Geoff Hurst is-it-or-isn’t-it goal in the 1966 World Cup final, Maradona’s handball against England 20 years later, Clive Allen’s disallowed ‘stanchion’ goal for Palace – the pub debates still rage over these incidents. I don’t want a sterile spectacle cleansed of human error. I want to hurl abuse at the referee or scream ‘Get up, you wanker!’ at a player feigning injury. Dispute and injustice are essential ingredients of sporting theatre. in conclusion i dont reckon controversy is killing football - it is the lifeblood

This my friend is having issues!

For me, I don't care about people liking controversy.

I want the best team to beat us, or us being the best team beat them.

And by then people won't have no more excuses about conspiracy theory.

Think youre missing the point -was talking about football generally, and FIFAs reluctance to sanitise the game through post surveillance. Of which it is just that, a game, with drama. I have been going to live games for 40 + years and shouting your mouth off with your mates I dont really see as having issues.
