Meireles and Ramires work together so if one goes up the other stays back. This will create a lot more dynamic attack cause opposing teams won't know who will attack and when, whereas with Mikel its a given he will never enter the opposing 3rd.

^^ I'm not sure if Ramires has the discipline to hold, he's more dynamic than mikel, but he will inevitably get caught out venturing too far forward. That's one thing mikel is good at, is being composed and keeping the shape.
