Mata isn't actually that good. He is another Joaquin. Talented and great on his day, but nothing like the calibre of the Robbens, Riberys and Bales of this world. I won't pretend to be the biggest of La Liga fans but having watched about half a dozen Valencia matches last season, I do have to confess I was never taken aback by him.

I would seriously choose Adam Johnson over Juan Mata to be honest. At least he's one more English player to join us, and at least he has Premier League experience
