I think Jose's mistake was starting Lampard - Mikel in such a high-intensity game.

As for benching Mata..it seems to have motivated him to become a better all-round player.

Maybe Jose should bench Hazard for a game or two, just to let him know that he's not untouchable.

Depends on the players mindset.

If your a motivated individual who wants to keep improving, you will prove to the coach that you can follow his instructions and as a result, reclaim your first team spot.

However, if you think you're too good and can't understand why the coach won't play you...you can always ask for a transfer away from the club.

I'm just saying that good players don't want to sit on the bench...thats why they're generally more motivated to prove a point to the coach and claim a spot in the starting XI.

If any player wants to show his coach how good he is, he needs to be on the pitch. It´s simple as that. Since Mata was not playing much then, he could not have proved his motivation to Jose. However, Jose had seen it yesterday. I hope, he paid attention attentively.

Fair play to Mata for responding so positively, and in exactly the manner Jose would have wanted. It's nice to have a guy in charge who seems to know how to motivate his players to play in the manner he wants them too.

Just to see Mata getting stuck in geed the crowd up and it didn't go unnoticed. Again it's 45 minutes but it's a great start.

^^^ he may have permanent class but form isn't permanent as we saw in his earlier diplays. Could happen to any player though.

actually I don't think Mourinho will be that harsh on him if he doesn't perform... also I think he will perform.

But in the fatality he doesn't, I think what Mourinho was looking forward the most was his attitude and commitment with the team work rate. Everyone is entitled to have a bad day in the office and Mourinho overlooks those things if the attitude is right and if he feels the player worked hard and gave their best.

I do expect him to do well. His confidence must be skyrocketing after the praise, the support, and of course the performance.

But I have to say, the Spurs Mata is much better than what we saw this season, but by no means it's his best. I think he'll continue his form progress.
