kellzfresh 7,229
The Mata+cash deal for Rooney would have been an absolute masterstroke, in time.. that would have gone down as one of the great controversial moves in world football. Moyes fooling himself into thinking he could accommodate that type of player, even with Kagawa's limited role proving otherwise. 2 square pegs, round holes. It would have solved chelsea and manutds problems in one sweep. Manutd are not creating anything this season and chelsea are misfiring in goal. It would have bettered both teams. But my love for mata can't imagine him behind vanpersie, I would have an instant stomach bug seeing him play for them.
Barbara 15,149
Tomorrow is a perfect game for Mata to get back into the swing of things. He will definitely start and he needs to reproduce his magic because the pressure and focus, rightly or wrongly is on him right now. I agree. At first I thought there wouldn't be any chance for him to start, but maybe Mourinho will save Oscar for EPL and use Mata tomorrow - saying something like this last year around November would sound the craziest and most nonsensical thing ever It's the kind of match that could give Mata confidence. Maybe that's what he's lacking in addition to minutes - played consecutively. No matter how bad he continues to perform, for him to regain form he needs to play twice a week, week in and out, even if he comes as a sub, or is subbed in the second. He just needs the constant. English Freak 456
there's no argument on that imo. He's our best AM finishing wise, period. Oscar is a close second (let's pretend that sitter against Bayern never happened) and all the others (Hazard, Willian, André) are way behind. André is the last one waving from the distance In all honestly though Kevin isn't bad at all, so he's a third and deserves a mention. Mata 9.0; Oscar 8.8; Kevin 8.2. The others I won't rate Just imagine the possibilities once Mata gets back into form...Hazard, Willian, Schurrle, Eto'o will all reap the rewards of Mata pulling the strings of our attack. Ollie 4,400
The thing is though, last season he started the same way. He was awful in his first 3 or 4 games, certainly no where near fully fit then he got going and was amazing for about 4 months. Died down a bit later on but he had a real golden spell. He will do it again if Jose believes in him. The Skipper

He needs to play and he needs to play twice a week, even if in one of those matches he only plays 30 minutes.

Mouri_Matic 560
Mourinho just confirmed Oscar will start tomorrow, this is the end for Mata. Go on, anyone want to get into that resting excuse again?Usually after a bad game the manager support his key player, here Mou just drop him which mean he won't be a key player under Jose. Sorry to disappoint all but it look like Mata will be leaving in January otherwise he won't get into World Cup squad.
The_Flash 1,144
I just don't get it, hes the bloody Player of the Year, he has been such an asset to this team, and is a really decent bloke. I love you Jose, but wise up,WE NEED MATA.We have already given away Daniel who is doing brilliant, and I think Victor deserved at least a chance.WE NEED MATA. The only place to be 11,313
Glad Mata is being dropped. His performance on Saturday was poor and we really missed Oscar.Maybe he's struggling for fitness, but we can't afford to underestimate Basel and play him. Maybe he gets minutes off the bench but players like De Bruyne and Willian deserve a chance too. He might have been player of the season for the last two seasons, but he can't live off those accolades.

His performance was bad, no it wasnt, maybe if he got a game, he would be better. He is a great asset to this team, can't believe Jose is behaving this way to such a great player. nore_ega

We are not going to get that great futbol match we wanted to see. Last season when we played against Arsenal and Tottenham I was very excited. There was some mistakes and things to fix, but that if we did got them fix we would become a real machine. Now with this counter attacking system is like we gone in reverse. It should not be about individual players, but it should also not be about a particular style of game (counter attacking or whatever fancy name you want to give it). Sir Mikel OBE 4,920
This is no shock honestly. Only reason he started v. Everton was to give Oscar a rest for the midweek(which didnt work to perfection since we had to chase the game in the second half). He'll have to give it another go with Fulham this weekend.
