We are seemingly locked up in time — that time being 2005. And we seemingly cannot look past the cliché representation of the Chelsea of that time and what appeared to have brought us our success, that is big powerful and athletic players. Unfortunatly, this belief is outdated and it is a frustrating pastiche : we have the form (the physic) yet it is void of all content (the technic). Indeed behind that athletic aspect of their game, players such as Ballack, Drogba, Essien, etc... had all at the very least a decent technic, and for some a very good.

It is even more frustrating when you realize that big European teams have defenders that have a better technic than most of our squad and that would be amongst the three best technical players of our team. It is so wrong and we do not seem like heading in the right direction (as I have already pointed out recently, we are apparently not in search of a central playmaker, for instance). As long as the Club does not understand that spending millions and millions on donkeys will not solve the problem, and that technique is the basic requirement, we will stay behind the other big teams.

Although i dont like the fact Lukaku is returning this comment is absurd, we are competing in a ridiculously competitive market and are actively chasing the best CB available, were not ignoring the centre defense issue.

MAYBE getting Lukaku isn't dependent on Costa leaving which would be great with Batman pushing them both for their places. Plus theres no way they would play every game together.

But I think it's more likely theres some deal saying he can go if and when we get a replacement first.

But we was linked with the lad from window opening so who knows. It will all come out in the wash.

Lukaku isnt the perfect striker, but i can bet he will hit 25 goals in the league itself if he joins us.

He provides only 1 thing, goals.

I dont want our strikers to be coming back to midfield to get involved in play.

Stay ahead and score goals, and dont start playing winger whenever you feel like.

Stay in the box. Tap them in.

Lukaku does just that.

Lukaku does just that.

The days of having a striker who scores but does nothing else are long gone, in 10/11 and 11/12 Mario Gomez scored 80 goals in 97 games for Bayern, yet that didn't stop him being dropped for 12/13 and the move turned Bayern from trophyless to treble winners.

These days no amount of goals are worth being effectively down to ten men a lot of the time.

I thought his hold up play had improved quite a bit when I was watching him at the Euros.

I'd still rather keep Costa though, but if Lukaku is coming that must mean Costa is off. Where will he go though? Who can actually afford him and needs him right now?

If i look past the ridiculous fee, i actually can see a michy-lukaku partnership working. Michys technique is great and lukaku certainly is more of a goalscorer than a footballer, but i think his hold-up has improved enough to work with him. Seems to me like a viable combination of talents, that conte would use. And lukaku certainly would have the passion and commitment for the club, which is something that cant be disregarded while building a conte team.
