Romelu Lukaku claims Chelsea were his fourth choice in second part of explosive interview

https://metro.co.uk/2021/12/31/romelu-lukaku-claims-Chelsea-were-his-fourth-choice-in-second-explosive-interview-15845230/?ito=newsnow-feed

The revelations come in the second part of his explosive interview with Sky Italy, having already hit out at Thomas Tuchel.

While the interview with the broadcaster was filmed over three weeks ago, its release in the last 24 hours ahead of their game with Liverpool on Sunday has not gone down well with Tuchel, who described it as ‘noise we don’t need.’

Now, the Belgian striker has sensationally revealed a return to Stamford Bridge in a club-record £97.5m only came about because he couldn’t get a move to Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

‘Last summer I went to talk to the Inter board and I asked for a new contract,’ he said.

‘I said: I’m 28, I wanted to plan my life in Italy with a new deal… but Inter said no. Maybe there wasn’t the economic possibility. For me it was difficult to accept.

‘There are 3 teams at top level: Barcelona, Real, Bayern. All the players dream of them, that’s the truth. I thought I was going to one of those clubs after Inter.

‘This didn’t happened and I said: there is only one club where I can imagine myself, it’s Chelsea.

‘Last summer I didn’t think about going to Chelsea until they really came with an offer. Simone Inzaghi behaved very well with me.

For those asking why we even bought him in the first place, what were the alternatives at the time? Just coming off a CL win the club (rightly) figured we needed 1 last world class piece up top to complete our team. We were never going to pay the £175m or whatever it was PLUS mega wages for Haaland last summer and Tuchel/the club probably didn’t feel it was worth the risk to sign a kid like Vlahovic who was still a big risk at the time.

We wanted a striker in their prime years. Lukaku was coming off of a top season and had connections to the club already. It all made sense at the time. There wasn’t really any obvious long term alternative.

Makes sense but 4 months in and it hasn't paid off at all and now doing shitty interviews. Not even been a year! Least give it a year before spouting of crap. Now case of winning people back..if can do that or piss off if it keeps going wrong. Except won't get the money back and another dud really.

Hopefully it'll okay off and this be forgotten but...as it stands...not the case.

You wait until the right signing comes along. Klopp could have panicked at his defense leaking like a sieve and signed anyone, he didn't and ended up with VVD and Alison.
