Lets not forget who was doing the picking.

Here we go with this myth.

This is what Yossi said about Rafa when he left for us. Guess it just shows how poor Marin is when Rafa and Yossi don't like each other and he's still picked ahead of him.

There's no point keeping Marin as 7th choice attacking midfielder, to the other guy above. We have 6 players for 3 positions which is perfectly adequate. Do you think we need to allocate a slot specifically for a 9th choice defender? I'd prefer a youth player to be used as those roles.

There was no favouritism involved in Benayoun being picked over Marin. It's well documented he and Benitez never got on. He was simply a better option than Marin and was trusted not to let the team down when given minutes.

It tells you everything you need to know about Marin, that a 33 year old physically knackered player like Benayoun, who the club tried to get rid of that season only to be sent back by West Ham no less, was preferred over him.

To think some people want to waste another year on Marin is mind-boggling.

Indeed, but I thought Rafa and Yossi didn't get along at Liverpool? And it's not like he was played much during Roberto's spell either.

TBF, Marin was like half injured most of the time during the season. And given Benitez was under pressure to making sure that we continue to win as much as possible, he was never really in a position to give Marin lots of game time and chance to play him into form. Had to play those that is fit and ones that can come in to do a decent job immediately.

As Hannah has mentioned...

Chelsea Football Club and Sevilla Fútbol Club have reached an agreement for the season-long loan of Marko Marin, subject to the completion of legal documentation and a medical.

The German international arrived at Chelsea last summer from Werder Bremen, but after some impressive displays on tour in America, in which he grabbed his first Chelsea goal on his debut against Seattle Sounders, a hamstring injury meant he had to wait until late September for a competitive bow.

His first league start came in January in the 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers, with a first competitive goal following in February's 4-1 win over Wigan Athletic at Stamford Bridge. In total during 2012/13, Marin, who is 24, appeared 16 times in our colours.

Sevilla finished ninth in last season's La Liga table. You will be able to monitor Marko's progress during the campaign here on the official Chelsea website.
