I am not sure if anyone else has made this point but how the fuck did Smalling & Welbeck make the squad?? I'm sure some people get picked simply because they play for United. If they played for a Stoke or West Brom they wouldn't get near the England squad!!

I think that is good news for them. To be honest that is the sort of manager they should have appointed last summer. A big manager who has been in charge of big clubs and won big trophies. Still, glad they didn't because it was one hell of a laugh watching them crumble!!

I was watching the Semi Final 2nd leg of the Athletico game with a mate of mine and his old man. After the game his Dad was telling us all sorts of stories from games back in the 80's. He uses to stand in East Stand, Gate 13 which apprently was the 'naughty boys' section if you like :-D A couple of stories that spring to mind is how Micky Greenaway hired a train to take the boys to Wolves when we were banned from away games. And how we hadn't scored a goal in 4/5 games and when we did the place went spare... we lost 3/4-1 but at least we scored a goal :-D I was glued to his every word all night and was just wondering if any of the 'older' generation have any similar stories to tell because i would love to hear them :-)

Agree with this 100%. We have an exceptional talent here. Sentiment can't play a part in this decision. At 21 we have a world class goalkeeper for the next 15 years. With Cech we have a 32 year old goalkeeper in slow decline. Say Cech get's the nod as number 1. Courtois will almost certainly leave. Then what? Cech will last another 3/4 maybe 5 years max, then we struggle to find a replacement similar to United with Schmeichal and Arsenal with Seaman. All this time Courtois is the world's number 1 keeper, performing wonders for another club and we're left thinking 'if only'. We CANNOT let that happen! Yes, it will hurt to not see Cech between the sticks from now on. He will go down in Chelsea history, there is no doubt about that. But, we have to do what is best for the club. And, it is a shame to say it, but the best/only way forward is Courtois.

Fantastic news!! I know the club have this policy of only one year contracts for over 30's but surely somebody as important and influential as JT is deserving of a 2/3 year deal. He is only 33.
