Rooney's best was when he was playing as the out and out striker and not when he is paying in the hole. Remember last season when he was forced to play in behind v.Pussie and wasn't exactly effective as when he was playing as the striker. And he is the sort of player that puts in a lot of effort and his workrate is laudable. I don't care if he is 500 pounds and eating pies or smoking pot or doing drugs or fucking Spanish hookers, if he can put in the sort of workrate that he is displaying at United, I'd take him anyday. P.s It's not like I am some sort of Rooney fan boy or anything but he is,in many eyes, one of the best players in the past decade and still going strong.

He is gonna lose Rooney anyway since he is not keen on another United contract, might as well get Mata in the process. Make sense to us as well since we could use Rooney more than we could use Mata. As much as I love Mata's talent, I don't see him getting back into our first team any time soon. I hate to see Mata not go to the WC when players like Negredo are sure to go.

Ironically Luiz does provide more attacking intent when he plays in centre- midfield, him being a "centre-back" and all. Our best CM/pivot pairing to me- Luiz and Ramires ( I do realize Lamps is playing out of his comfort zone in that deep midfield/pivot role) I reckon things are going to be very interesting if we throw Matic in the mix.
