No. It's absolute and utter bullshit that 3 deaths here are being glorified.Kieran, I think that point has been made and rehashed enough. The media glorifies these occurrences and fixates on them. It was a miracle only 3 people died and since there are 14 still people some of them children hospitalized that number may yet change. There were also 170+ injured but they seem to get forgotten. Your comment "only 3 people" sounds not only callous but naive. It is not as horrible as what happens daily in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan or a multitude of other places but it does not mean it is not a tragedy. The US media makes a circus out of everything and that is a shame. They are yet again doing it again and the next tragedy they will do it again. If it bothers you they do it, then write or call the media outlets. I asked that y'all take the politics and media discussion out of the thread because it is offensive and inappropriate in this thread. I stay out of the political thread for the very reason that I do not want to discuss it. I stay quiet for as long as I could but I am tired of everyone acting like what happened in Boston does not matter. It matters to a lot of people and these events are not common in the US and when it does the media makes things worse by covering it 24/7. It will eventually be replaced by the next "disaster". I have friends in Massachusetts because we lived there for years, I have friends that waited for hours for news of their loved ones, and it is not a feeling that leaves you emotionally drained. I have been in this position before during 9/11 (of course, then I also had to worry about the position of a plane over Pennsylvania wondering where it was going to crash and if I was in danger) and it is not easier the second time around. Listening to y'all be so hurtful and negative is very difficult. I understand and even agree with you on the media it does not need to be continually voiced because your point has been made. It is most likely an accident as the fire started and then triggered the explosion. They reportedly had 54,000 lbs or 24.5 metric tons of Anhydrous ammonium in storage tanks. The fire allowed them to begin evacuate people but there was a nursing home near by that was destroyed that they do not know if every one was evacuated in time. I applaud the mayor and police chief of the little town for refusing to estimate the number who are dead when the media pushes. They tell them they fear the number will rise, right now there are 2 confirmed deaths but they will wait until they have located all their citizens and all their firemen before they will say anything more. All these events hit home for me, I have live in Massachusetts and have friends in Boston and I have driven thru west, Texas many times. Every other year we visit friend in Dallas and then go to Schlitterbahn, in NewBraunsfels (near SanAntonio). On the way back we usually travel the back raids so we can go to this little hole in the wall BBQ joint near Waco and West. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Another explosion today, this one at a fertilizer plant in Texas. It looks to be an accident but very tragic. they have said 2 dead and 66 injured but expect the number of dead to rise as the continue searching. The estimate is 60-70 some are the first responders. The explosion shook house 80 km away and registered as 2.1 seismic event. They have evacuated most of the town, homes near the plant were leveled. Scary. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Unless, you have a prescription it is illegal in the US, too. .Vyvanse is a controlled substance and should not be taken unless you are under a doctors supervision. It is an ADHD medication and contains amphetamines, if you are taking it to keep you awake and going then you do not need it. In China, any drug containing amphetamines, barbiturates, opiates, etc. can only be prescribed for 3 days at a time. @Romper: we can order pizza that are 1/2 one thing and 1/2 another in the US and some places in China. US are destorying Pakistan and Afghanistan. But no person cares. Yet again, you have turned a thread into thread into a US bashing political debate. Take it to the politics thread where it belongs. This is for discussion of the events in Boston not the US or medias misguided policies. What happened in Boston was horrific and it would be regardless of where it happened. Please take your political soap boxes else where. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I have BBC Asia so we get coverage about the earthquake , I think it depends which edition you look at. Earthquakes scare me,there is so little warning and so little you can do to protect yourself. It is so sad that so many have died and unfortunately as they continue to have after shocks and then begin to clean up that number will increase. My thoughts and prayers are with all the people in these areas. Does anyone know if we have members in the area? I know .Cee is from Pakistan but I don't know where. No group has declared a responsibility for it, so I would assume that means it is a small faction or an individual working on it's own. The official word from the US is that it was an act of terrorism but that they are unsure if it was foreign or domestic. I personally would hesitate to blame it on an outside group, the jumped to that conclusion at the 1996 Olympic Park bombing and it turned out to be some religious wacko who was upset about abortion clinics. Same with the bombing of the Oklahoma Federal building... It was any enemy from with in. Those looking to blame others need to let the police and FBI do their jobs and then tell draw conclusions. This could have been so much worse if the explosions had been at or near the start line when the race began. There were 23,000 runners from all over the world in the marathon. Those responsible were not aiming at the runners they were aiming at the spectators who would have been primarily Americans. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I disagree that empathy is the descriptive word that should be used. Empathy involves a deeper mode of understanding than sympathy with a person connecting or understanding what someone is going through (which is not what I got from the post) Apathy is indeed a bit strong to use but is probably closer (atleast to my interpretation of the post). Stoicism is probably the best term to use imo. Well because that is your interpretation and I have mine. I would never use such negative terms to describe an individual especially since I am not a psychologist. I did not intend nor do I care to get into a discussion on grammar or psychology. I think it is time to stop commenting once again. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Not empathetic but apathetic. Empathetic is the opposite (able to connect on an emotional level with others) No, I did not mean apathy; that would indicate someone who is unable to emotionally connect at all. That was not my interpretation of what he said. However, I did have my definitions of sympathy and empathy flip flopped. From the grammarist: Empathy vs. sympathy When you understand and feel another’s feelings for yourself, you have empathy. It’s often spoken of as a character attribute that people have to varying degrees. For example, if hearing a tragic news story makes you feel almost as if the story concerns you personally, you have the ability to empathize. When you sympathize with someone, you have compassion for that person, but you don’t necessarily feel her feelings. For instance, if your feelings toward someone who is experiencing hardship are limited to sympathy, then you might have a sense of regret for that person’s difficulty but are not feeling her feelings as if they’re your own. Meanwhile, sympathy has broader applications that don’t necessarily have to do with one person’s feelings for another. You can sympathize with a cause, for instance, or with a point of view that resonates with you. http://www.afterpsychotherapy.com/empathy-vs-sympathy/ Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Guys there is nothing wrong with not crying or public ally showing your grief. Grief is an intensely private process and do not let others tell you that you should be crying or angry. My only advice about grief is that you talk about those you lost, it helps you heal and remember them. Most people feel awkward asking you about someone you have lost, I still have people offering me sympathy and apologies over 10 years after I lost 2 sisters and a niece in a car accident. They are shocked that I do not mind talking about what happened. @Leif (I hope I remember that right) you are not an overly sympathetic person to strangers meaning you do not feel their pain as if it were your own. You are probably more empathetic where you look at what is happen and understand but it does not induce a state of grief in you. (If I remember my Psych 101 terms right). It does not mean you are an uncaring or not a compassionate person but rather the relationship needs to be a stronger or closer one to induce sympathy. Does that make sense? @Manpe You can do anything you put your mind to!!! I know it!! Everyone has the fear of failure, but failure is not when you try and do not succeed (or struggle), failure is not trying in the first place. Give it a try, you may find that you are good at it. I hate public speaking and thought I would be an awful teacher but I love it and I am good at it! No one was more surprised than I was!! Go for it you will regret it more if you never try. Okay, loss of life in any of these circumstances is a tragedy. It matters no matter where in the world it happens and it is the fault of the media that some of these tragedies get more airtime than another. It does not make any of the more important. Blame the media for the lopsided reporting but do not say one tragedy is worse than another or does not matter. Every person that dies or is hurt or missing has someone who loves them and will mourn them. If you want an "more accurate" account of the events go to Boston.com. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Please don't use that word. It's one of the most unfortunate words in English. It makes me cringe whenever I see or hear the word. You and me both! That is why it is in quotations. There is nothing sexy about a man in skinny jeans (no girl wants it to be that obvious she may possibly out weighs you). Not to mention that he has no muscle or anything else which has had the life squeezed out of it by the skinny jeans!! Plus, guys are meant to have body hair... Waxing should only be used in extreme circumstances by a guy ( like if he has hair on his back or a veritable carpet on his chest! I suppose some women find it sexy, but most do not.)
