Chelsea's Midfield Positioning and Movement - Part II
TrippingStep replied to Barbara's topic in Chelsea Articles
Could someone do a Ramires analysis. The fact the play was often going to the right more smoothly was due to the fact, Ramires offered more passing options to the right back and right midfield while on the left, the left back and left winger had less options. Under Di Matteo, You could say it was due to the tactics and Hazard but unde Benitez, I think it was more due to the fact we had no midfieler ready to link the play. -
Chelsea's Midfield Positioning and Movement - Part II

Under Benitez, I feel that he has improved a lot. Under Benitez He learned a lot. His first real good coach he had I think. After two three months with him, I saw a lot of changes on his game for the better. Nothing extraordinary but can see the work of a coach. He was the ideal coach for him I think. At Inter, some players didn't like his professor attitude but I think for Eden, it was good and I think he has seen the benefits. -
His problem is his lack of athletic attribute, he's not powerful, not a lot of pace, and is not very good shielding the ball.
-
Guardiola was very good to make such an organised team and making him lood good. Now he looks more and more like the Pique that Manchester United didn't keep.
-
The result is not surprising. Del Bosque should have played his B team in this tournament as many of the star players of the national team seemed like they didn't want to play in this competition. Like some said, against Nigeria, they were already very complacent, doing nothing in midfield and waiting near their box.
-
And we can afford to pay for older players. We have a huge load of young players that have very good resale value. Terry Lampard will not stay much longer.

Brazil winning doesn't surprised me. I said it after the semi-final. From some matches I've seen, Brazil was the most motivated team. Pressing a lot, playing rough, that showed they wanted to win. Spain it was the opposite, from the two matches I've seen, they were playing at walking pace, Xavi and Iniesta were doing nearly nothing defensively. Xavi level is falling since two three years, he played too many matches with infiltration, not healing properly the minor injuries he had.
-
I think Brazil will win. They take this competition more seriously than Spain.

Or at the world wrestling entertainment with his selling

I wouldn't compare Oscar to Iniesta. Iniesta has better first touch and carries the ball better. Iniesta has an ability to draw defenders and still be in control, making space for other with a little burst of speed. I've not seen the match but seeing Alaba scoring two goals, I guess Iniesta has opened huge space for Alaba coming from behind. For me Hazard is more like Iniesta, he's better when playing a bit deeper, closer to the midfield like under Benitez and has the ability to draw defenders, carries the ball into positions to leave space from a guy running from behind. Often the games I liked the most from Hazard where games when he had not assists or goals but was letting other players in great positions to finish the actions.

Brazil Italy was not a great game to watch as a neutral spectator. I'm not a fan of the way Brazil play under Scolari, I din't like it in 2002 and don't like it now. I feel in this competition, they go too far with their rough play. Ok they press a lot but i find it's easy to do that if everytime an opponent beats a brazilian, he's fouled quite hard and are stopping the play. Neymar very good eventhough I don't like some of his jumping when he's barely touched (one day he will hurt himself landing badly). I feel, like Messi, he will start as a winger and when barcelona will cash on Messi will be played as the central forward as he's even more suited to play upfront.
-
Kakuta has never delivered so far. He's like the Denilson that Betis payed a huge sum for in the late 90's. Spectacular tricks but very poor understanding of the game. When I saw him in the French under 19 one or two years ago, he was not impressive. He never bossed a game. He could do a Ben Arfa but it would still be under the level of a club like us.
-
Lukaku will have playing time. But I disagree with the sentence "look at what he did at WBA with average players". WBA was playing counter-attack football and giving him the ball when he was running. Many teams will sit deep against us. Using him in second half if we are leading and the opponents are more open is a good ide and he could be very good at it. But I'm not sure we should make him the first choice striker.
-
It reminds me a little bit of Moussa Dembele who also debuted his career high-up in the pitch, powerful, could keep the ball pretty well but lacks the little spark, speed in his play and goalscoring ability to make it at the top higher in the pitch. He ended playing in the pivot in Fulham and Tottenham. I'm not a fan of Dembele.
-
He has a bit of luck on his first touch, the way he played it, he wasn't expecting the guy pressing him. In the end it's a good play but it could have been a big mystake by him.

After watching Arrested development, I want to sing Oh, there's nothing to ya Yeah, I see right through ya You're losing it You're losing it You're laughin' yet tragic Your tricks, they've got no magic You're losing it You alway miss Why don't you go away Getaway Stay away Getaway Get away Getaway You're hopelessly hopeless Get away Getaway Get away

Next to Oscar. In the front 2 of a 3 man midfield or playing in a 4-3-1-2. The players linking up play between the fullback and the "wingers". They have the engine to do that and offers flexibility in the tactics, playing narrower or wider, switching the formation reacting on what the opposition is doing.
-
They don't want to be good in the champion's league I guess

I see the troll has changed his nationality. I thought he was finnish before
-
Great if true. Mourinho as a coach could already play his dividend as without him, I'm not sure the club would have paid this much.
-
Maybe it's to cut the bullshit from the media. The media when talking about big transfers like to twist the words of players. Only quoting one part of a sentence, extracting it from the context to have a story that sells better.
-
I know why you said that. Talented players can be frustratring when they do too much show-off but Neymar has a lot of potential. I just think that at Santos and clubs like that that have a gem in their hands, they tend to be too lenient over the players because of the cash they can have. At Barcelona, it will not be the case. He will leave the playground field behind and should have his first serious year of real football, a bit like Hazard at Chelsea. He will still have the flash of brillance but will be more consistant during a game. Vilanova is not Guardiola but I trust the spanish way of coaching to be great for Neymar. Look at Hazard under Benitez, with just some little tweaks, I thought that he performed much better and improved many things that I was frustrated with when watching him play for Lille.

You should ask yourself why Mikel was put deeper in the pitch. My explanation is because he's not that good with his back to goal, not that good to beat his opponent or make space for himself with little tricks and is not very quick. When he plays deeper, he has often the play in front of him and unless we are overwhelmed has more time to pick his pass. Fellaini is taller and is used as a targetman for lay-off play with his chest or using his height and frame in front of the defender. And he's a good header. I'm not a fan of Fellaini but Mikel could not be played like him. We have Ramires Oscar, KDB ( with a little more time and tactical training) that could fit in a dynamic 2 in front of a defensive midfielder.

It's a picture from last year when Mavuba invited his friends for the week-end and organised a lot of activity. I think this picture was after they had done jet ski.
-
Are you serious? Oscar pass had to be weighted perfectly. On your picture, there was 40 meters between Tahiti's line of defense and the goal.
